Consumer Reports compares Mustang Camaro Challenger12 May

2010 Ford Mustang tested by Consumer Reports

The Big 3 have been in the news plenty here lately, that’s for sure. Today, however, we aren’t going to focus on financial crises, bailouts, or Who’s on first. We’re here to talk comparison & contrast: specifically between the revamped Ford Mustang, the redesigned Chevrolet Camaro, and the reborn Dodge Challenger. Consumer Reports has compiled a comprehensive test on these three contenders and produced a video to share with us on the results. If a picture’s worth a thousand words, then this clip is worth…you get the idea. Grab some popcorn and a soda, because this one’s worth watching.

i think the camaro need to change the nose from smiling to being more striaght more like the old car the back of car is ok for now inside of car nice leave it… just take the dip out of the front and the challenger looks nice but way to big and so is the camaro challenger looks great and should not change the appearence of the car just the size of it ..mustang nice job just have to work on making it a real sports car build the suspention like the vet ,thets what i want to see and this car will eat it up becuase i know the hp is there but the handling is not… that is the next step for the stang to keep ahead of camaro and dogde….. thank you for lisening

You say the mustang needs suspension like the other two cars can handle like crap…. please. The Camaro is impressive but my 05 mustang handles better after a few suspension modifications. I’ve spent far less on mods then buying either one would cost, and would dust either one. Road or track, straight or corners.

    Hey Rich,

Too bad your Cobra cost twice as much as the Camaro :-P

A ‘98 Mustang Cobra costing more than a new Camaro? You must be on some good stuff!!!

The Camaro needs to offer big power and handling because of of its size and weight. Big power and handling needs to translate to performance. However, the new Camaro’s performance versus bang-for-the-buck is lost in translation. I have to pay more money for a V-8 Camaro or Challenger than I would for a Mustang, then pay more for gas too. Everytime I see a new Camaro, which is not very often thank goodness, it reminds me of the fat kid from elementary school with the goofy smile.

As for the Challenger, I guess the “challenge” for Chrysler is to see how many people they can rip off before everyone realizes that the Challenger isn’t a realistic vehicle in todays sports car market. Sure, it has big power and a classic look, but I wouldn’t pay all that money to drive around in a car that has one of the lamest interiors I’ve seen in awhile. I worked hard for my money, and when I spend $30K+ for a car, I don’t want a KIA interior.

I like to look of the new 2010 Mustang interior, but the exterior leaves me wondering…what the hell were the Ford designers thinking with the tail of the Mustang. The forward-slant look does not flow with the rest of the car. I guess it’s a love it/hate it thing as some people tell me that they don’t mind it. Also, does the car need that much plastic along the bottom? I know the engine doesn’t make the big power numbers like the Camaro or Challenger, but it does make better use of the power it does generate. I can’t wait for the new Coyote V-8 to debut in the Stang. It looks to me like Ford is still one step ahead of the competition…again.

I look at it like this I personally think the Camaro is to big and they even though it resembles the 69 it is an ugly car in my eyes. and with a 6.2 liter Chevy could have done way more than 420 HP when a little 4.6 281 ci is pushing 315. I feel Chevy could have done way better than what they did. Another thing is how long will the Camaro even last this time??. As for the Challenger I think it is deffintly the best looking of the three cars but that is all it has going for it. The Hemi is nothing and they really did a piss poor job performance wise. The Mustang is on top in my eyes it is a very good looking car and it may be a little slower than the Camaro but like I said its only 281 ci and I am more than happy to know that Fords little 4.6 is close to Chevys 6.2 If i were to buy one of these cars it would deffintley Be the Mustang over the other two….and besides its a Ford which makes it all the better
