UPDATED: Sneak Peek at the 2010 Mustang for NASCAR

New Ford Mustang Racing Car

In case you’ve been under a rock and missed the news the first time around, the Ford Mustang is set to join the NASCAR racing series in the 2010 season.  The 2010 Mustang trimmed out for the NASCAR Nationwide Series will run in at least four races as part of a new car rollout program.  Tomorrow, Jack Roush (of Roush Fenway Racing) will officially announce and unveil the 2010 Mustang race car.  Not long after the unveiling, a test run by Colin Braun is set to come about on November 2nd at Talladega.  Better catch it while you can this fall, because it will be a while before you’ll see it on the track next July at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.  There’s more in store behind the car, so be sure to check out fordracing.com for more details.

UPDATE 10/13/09: Check out some slick video footage inside!

It is about time that the racing car actually looks more like the street version.
    I love it.

Looks more like the street version???? Are you kidding me? Thats basically the same common template bodyshell with a bunch of Mustang decals for the headlights, grill and rear valance. Even that “hockey stick” bodyline is just part of the wrap decal. Look at that rear quarter window and tell me if that is anything like what is on the production car. I would be willing to bet if that car was in bare primer you wouldnt be able to tell it from a Camry or a Charger. It wasnt that long ago when you didnt need a bunch of cheesy headlight and grill decals to tell what kind of car it is supposed to be. Yuck!

I’ve been away from this sport since the days of the Ford Torino Talladega, Mercury Cyclone, Dodge Daytona, etc. Apparently, nowadays you can just take a generic NASCAR approved body and paint it to look like whatever model you want. What happened to the days when a Stocker was actually based on the real car? Take the paint off this “Mustang” and I bet no one can guess what it is….

That ain’t paint, Gus! All stickers! LOL Even the exhaust pipes in the back are stickers! I thought it was pretty funny that the door handles were stickers, and the body line that follows the whole body side were just part of the sticker, but to see the exhaust pipes in the back? I about fell off my chair!

Somebody please bring back the Trans-Am Series! Please I beg you, so we don’t have Nascar ruining the sport of Auto Racing!

This is a skin job on the COT platform. Boooo sticker job! Bring on a real factory race car in a real factory race series. Cars with VINs and factory go fast bits like the 500R! !!

Make that the FR500 cars – used in the Miller Cup series!

    NASCAR… who cares.

That car is no more a Mustang than a VW Bug would be. Front end and back end decals do not make it a Mustang. I agree with Gus and have not followed NASACR since the cars where unique and the drivers were real “guys” vs. blown dry spokes persons for soap or ED drugs.

NASCAR has no risk, no inovation, no speed, no personalities, it is just boring. My wife likes to watch it on Sunday afternoon to get her in her nap mode.
