Some reputable sources have given the StangNet crew some pretty solid information regarding what we can expect from Ford in this latest installation of the S197 Mustang. The current S197 was targeted to be a very accurate throwback to the popular Classical Ford Mustang…and wow, is it ever a success both in the base market and the aftermarket. Building upon this momentum, Ford is hinted to have some subtle, yet progressive changes in store for 2010.
The curves of the current S197 are smoother than what we saw on the latest generation of SN95—the New Edge update. Well, guess what--history is about to repeat itself. The 2009 to 2010 transition might be best explained in an analogous comparison with the movement from the 1998 to 1999 SN95 platform change.
What's this leave us with for now—aside from an overactive collective imagination? For starters, we can say that the update will likely clean up the look of the S197 and make it the next generation New Edge Ford Mustang of tomorrow.

This week, Ford shows us yet another segment of the 2010 Mustang interior. Last week, we saw the new Mustang dash and cluster, and now, we get a bit of a zoomed look of what was blacked out in the prior image. This 2010 Mustang shifter is definitely the highest class gear changer we have seen in the Mustang straight from the factory line. Its unique polished metal finish gives it an aura of luxury inside the already posh S197 interior of today. Also, it could just be the angle of the shot, but we were noticing that the actual shifter itself seems shortened a bit. If so, this could be the aftermarket influencing the market, given the demand for short-throw shifters by many Mustang fans. We just have one word of caution on a hot, sunny day: bring a cloth to cover the handle. Today's aftermarket shifter knob owners know this story all too well. |

After seeing the front fender and side view mirror, Ford has decided to take us back inside the 2010 Mustang to show us the updated perspective every owner will soon be very familiar with. Looking out toward the front from the pilot's view, we can see a nice presentation of the steering wheel with the updated running horse logo in the center. What is most noticeable to today's S197 owner is that the retro-styled air vents have now been replaced with traditional slotted ones. Hmm, we rather fancied the circular outlets--they were a great throwback to the Classic era. Additionally, the tachometer is finally back on the right side, as it is on the current Shelby GT500. Take a good look at the image we have shared out for you and then stop into our forums and let us know what you think! |

The latest unmasking image of the 2010 Mustang from Ford is a quick frontline shot showing the side view mirror and the front fender. From what we can see, the rumors about some edges being smoothed seem to hold their weight based upon this sample. The 2010 hood appears to slope down toward the headlight bezel more than the present S197 Mustang and the front fender rolls to mate with the hood line in one smooth transition; a contrast from the current flare found on today's Mustang. The official debut at the LA Auto Show is just over a month and a half away, so Ford is making sure to let the cat out of the bag as slow as they can to ramp up the suspense. Until then... |

This week's 2010 Ford Mustang teaser image features some sexy leather seating inside the pony car's cabin. Even though it is a darkened shot, we can see full well just how must bolster and padding the updated stitched seats will offer. Also, we get a deeper look at the somewhat heightened center console, separating pilot from co-pilot. These recent interior shots are great, Ford, but what we really want to see is the underhood shot, given all the rumors flying about a possible 5.0 liter engine in the next Mustang! We have a good bet that the "money shot" will be one of the last ones we'll see before the official debut at the LA Auto Show. |

The word out on the street regarding the next Ford Mustang engine lineup is that the 5.0 liter is set to return very soon. Dubbed the "Coyote", this speculated engine is a TiVCT 32v motor, producing 400 hp / 375 tq, is an aluminum block, has a 11:1 compression ratio, and the top end is capped at 7,000 RPM. Some sources say that this new powerplant will replace the current 3v 4.6 liter found in the 2005 - 2009 Mustang. Rumblings also indicate that this motor will be crafted at Fords Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario. The only jagged edge on this dreamy cloud is the strong compression ratio: many Mustang fans of contemporary times love to run boost on their stock components. If the Coyote comes to fruition, we could expect to see more bottles of giggle gas at the track and less whining...from the Mustang at least. |

Today's photo of the 2010 Mustang gives us the best view yet of the updated dash and steering wheel. With more style and raking when compared to the current S197 Mustang, the updated dash on the 2010 fits in line with what we have seen in recent times and certainly lives up to expectations of getting a refreshed retro-grade look. Take a good look--we'll post more as we count down to the LA Auto Show. |

After seeing more and more of the 2010 Mustang each day, we are glad to be able to show you some very revealing shots of the next Ford Mustang's interior. The dash, cluster, and column were completely uncovered in these shots, showing us all there is to see in the upcoming Mustang. The redesigned interior seems to keep several of the current S197 Mustang's components, but the main dash facade, center console, gauge cluster, and steering wheel have been updated to give a cleaner, more prestigious appearance to the pony car. Don't worry, the updates don't take away from the ever-popular classic & retro feel of the Ford Mustang! Take a look and see for yourself... |

After showing you the 2010 Mustang GT and the 2010 Mustang GT convertible, we are really excited to show you some shots of the 2010 Shelby GT500 prototype. The lastest prototypes of the updated Ford Mustang platform have been running around with heavy vinyl cladding, limiting the view until only recently, but this one that's been shot is only donning simple graphic tape. We are able to get a good view of the next dose of venom in the pony car lineup! It appears as though there are some touches to the grilles, headlight assembly, and what looks to be a series of new hood ducts to bring the cool air into the reputable GT500's supercharger. Take a good look and see what you think! |
