2011 Shelby GT500

About a week ago, Ford let slip the pricing on the 2011 Mustang GT as well as the 2011 V6 Mustang, and this week, they’ve taken the shrink wrap off the 2011 Shelby GT500 order guide & pricing docs.  It looks like the 2011 Shelby GT500 hardtop will carry a base price of $49,495, while the ragtop will wear a price of $54,495 on the window; these prices include destination & delivery. The Shelby GT500 order guide continues on to show us what we already expected to see under hood, with the aluminum block 5.4-liter V8 packing the pony car’s punch of 540hp.

Additional equipment offered on the latest GT500 installation include standard HID headlights, MyKey, Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS), integrated spotter mirrors on each side, and the Shaker 500 & 1000 stereo systems.

New offerings on the 2011 Shelby GT500 also include a glass roof ($1,995) and an enhanced electronics package which includes an HD radio ($2,340).  On the “show” side of the coin, serious Mustang enthusiasts can opt for an official SVT Performance package to tack on a 3.73 limited-slip rear differential, specialized 19-inch front & 20-inch rear painted forged aluminum wheels wrapped with Pirelli tires, upgraded front & rear springs and shocks, an SVT gear shift knob, Shelby striping, and of course a rear spoiler.  These tricks can be added to the 2011 GT500 for another $3,495.

Although I know that Shelby worked with Ford Racing to get the required 540 horsepower for the GT500, you’d think that you’d be hard pressed, to find anything from the SVT parts bins that would make a difference in performance.

Don’t be fooled by the Shelby name on the GT500. This car is built by Ford SVT just like the privious Generation Mustang Cobras. Ford Is just useing his name to try to help sell cars. Although it has the oposit efect on me. I realy like the GT500, but I would’t by anything with that grumpy, old, sue happy, SOB’s name on it as long as he is being paid for it.

Whoa is someone carrying a little grudge? Shelby has more than his name on it, he has lent his expertise and design ideas. It just wasn’t put together at his factory in Las Vegas, which saves us a lot of money. Check out his additions to a regular GT Mustang and you will see how much more you get by having Ford do it.
But the price seems to have gone up quite a bit for the 2011. Oh well, maybe the all aluminum engine will be worth it. It still like having the old iron myself.

Dr. LUIS, you’re joking I presume. Anyone who has any knowledge of automobiles, definitely would know who was behind the creation of the Shelby GT 500. Carrol Shelby is the GURU and probably the smartest man to ever build a car next to Henry Ford in the United States. There is not a single car made in the US that will hold a hair to Shelby, even today.

    James.
I believe you might have gotten the question a bit off the mark.Everyone knows the great Carrol .But I believe he is not the greatest contributor to the Mustang line at present .I dont think Ford needs a lesson from Shelby Automobiles in building great cars .
The Boss mustangs were better looking and better performing cars
, and with the right motivation will be once again .
Why should Ford pay someone for their name —- just like Pontiac was forced to do with the Trans Am .Its ludicruos
In Closing I just wish Ford brought back the Torino line with a big block Boss 429 engine .then the shelby’s could eat my dust ??
