UPR 2011 – 2012 Ford Mustang 6-speed shifter

Aftermarket Ford Mustang shifters have been one of the first modifications every enthusiast goes after within the first 5 or so tweaks to their cars.  Why?  Because a short-throw shifter is one of the quickest bang-for-the-buck ways to get a good handle on the Mustang, reducing the shifting motion by up to 20%, making for a quicker snap to the next gear, ultimately becoming more efficient & speedy while rowing down the track or the road course.  UPR Products has recently released their very own CNC Billet Aluminum shifter for the 2011 Mustang & 2012 Mustang GT and V6 trims equipped with the 6-speed transmission.  What’s more, we aren’t seeing a dramatic inflationary trend here; the price is right and about what we’ve paid for several short-throw shifter kits in the past 15 years of modifying our very own project cars.

Ford Mustang V6 performance package dubbed “Mayhem”

Back in late November 2010, we told you about the chance to name the new Ford Mustang V6 performance package for a promotional contest by Ford, on Facebook.  Well, the results of the contest are in and as you can already see, Mustang fans have selected the Mustang V6 Performance Package to be called the “Mayhem Mustang Package”.  Over 3,000 nameplates were submitted to the Facebook fan page, with the winner from North Carolina achieving the grand prize of a 3-year lease on a 2012 Mustang equipped with the Mayhem Mustang Package!

The package itself equips the already quite-capable 2012 Mustang V6 with a 3.31 performance rear axle, a Mustang GT-based suspension setup, Mustang GT braking, specifically styled 19-inch rims wrapped with Pirelli performance rubber, and much more.

Boss 302 crate motors now available from Ford Racing

Earlier this week, Ford Racing put the rumor to rest that new Boss 302 5.0-liter V8 crate motors would be available outside of the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang shell.  The Ford Racing catalog features the 5.0 crate engine under part #M-6007-M50B and will come fully capable of the same neck-jerk power we’ve all been drooling over…a wonderful 444 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of tire smokin’ goodness.  So what’s the wallet damage for this pony car power plant?  The Boss 302 crate motor will hold a sticker of $11,999…equaling a $5K bump in price over the Mustang GT crate motor’s price tag of $6,999.  That doesn’t seem all to bad at first blush, but when reflection shines back, you realize it’s a steep bill for a mere 32 horsepower more.  Guess the branding is the bulk of the cost…

The owner of 2012 Mustang Boss 302 #0001 shares the story

There is absolutely no doubt owning a low-production number Ford Mustang is where it’s at when it comes to collector caliber automobiles.  From the Cobra R to the Mustang Bullitt to the first reborn Shelby GT500s to roll out, every Mustang fan gets excited about having “that one” or just flat out owning one of the first ever crafted by Ford.

In this nifty little clip, we learn about the owner of the first production 2012 Mustang Boss 302…which is surely to become a collection piece in due time.  Amidst the mark-up madness and exclusivity that many recent late model Mustangs have brought to light, the 2012 Boss 302 #0001 just didn’t enter the scene with the same fanfare.  It was meagerly priced at just $5k over sticker (far below what many dealerships are hoping to get) and one man, Shane McGlaun, just happened to be in the right place at the right time to find the first Boss 302.

2012 Ford Mustang Boss prints available from Ford Images

So, let’s get this straight; not only do owners of the new 2012 Mustang Boss 302 get to enjoy their nameplate Ford Mustang specimens whenever they want, they also get the chance to bask in their cars’ beauty whenever they want by placement of official prints of their very own.  Right.  Ford Images is providing owners with the chance, and proof of order of course, to have a shot of their actual vehicle, framed, mounted, spec’d, and VIN-customized for all to see… even on those rainy or snowy (gasp) days.  What’s even cooler is the fact the prints released are all autographed by racing legend Parnelli Jones, the winner of the1970 SCCA Trans-Am Series championship while piloting none other than…you guessed it–a Mustang Boss 302.

SMS Supercars to launch white yellow and black label Mustangs

SMS Supercars will shift its focus a bit on the 2012 Mustang lineup, offering 3 different color labels, much like one might find when sniffing after fine spirits.  The introductory White Label Mustang will incorporate some simple touches to that of the Mustang GT and will post a price of $35,540.  Upgrade from White and move on to the Yellow Label and there’s a bit more to play with: the SMS supercharger setup (takes the car to 545hp) and a set of SMS-styled 19″ wheels ‘n rubber.  The top-end moniker to cap it all off is the Black Label SMS Mustang.  It takes the title of leader with its optional 575hp supercharged power plant, a total suspension redo, a complete SMS body kit, and lots of leather to boot.  The price tag set here is $48,000 for the n/a version and $58K for the supercharged monster Mustang.

Meet the 2012 Roush Stage 3 Ford Mustang

What do you get in a 2012 Mustang from Roush Performance that you don’t get from a sampling straight from the showroom floor?  LOTS.  Try taking the new 5.0-liter power plant and slapping a ROUSHcharger on it to let it breathe, bolstering 540HP and 465 ft/lbs of torque, up from the stock setting of 412hp.  Pushing 12psi of intercooled boost definitely helps this high-revving monster V8 step it up to the next level and provide smiles for miles.

TSB for 2011 and 2012 Ford Mustangs with cold shifting issues

Owners of late model Ford Mustangs equipped with the Tremec 3650 transmission were/are no strangers to the effort-laden issues as is found in cool or cold weather.  Now, owners of the 2011 Mustang and the 2012 Mustang equipped with the MT82 6-speed manual transmission are experiencing similar symptoms.  Don’t fret, though–Ford has already addressed the issue and released an official Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to provide a solution.  When an owner of a Mustang equipped with the MT82 6-speed experiences laborious shifting during warm-up, Ford’s recommendation is to replace the Motorcraft full synthetic manual transmission fluid (factory-filled) in the car with Motorcraft Dual Clutch transmission fluid; one with such a viscosity suitable for all temperatures and conditions.

2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake has 800hp

So, what street nickname do we call the 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake by?  The GT800?  Nah, that doesn’t roll off the tongue as well as “GT500″ or “Super Snake” at all.  That said, Shelby American is ready to let loose the latest installation of Ford Mustang horsepower madness with the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 debut at the forthcoming New York International Auto Show.  With 800 horsepower, the Super Snake is most definitely poised to be the one that steals the spotlight of the show.  It’s pretty amazing to think about, with this car coming about, and having the same amount of horsepower available as professional racing cars of the past and present…and maybe the future.
