We were recently invited to join Cooper Tires and Roush Performance at an unveiling event for a new high-performance tire (the RS3) that Cooper has developed exclusively for Roush Performance. A nice dinner kicked off the event Monday (9/29/08) evening, track time took up all day Tuesday, and travel home closed it up on Wednesday. We all tore up the 1.88-mile course at Gingerman Raceway in a Stage3 Roush Mustang to get a first hand feel of the results. You've got to see the pictures!

Well, theyve gone and done it. The partnership of Roush and Cooper
Tire spent 18 months designing and crafting a tire that would
eventually unseat the BFGoodrich KD series off the throne of Roush
applications. This recent South Haven event was the unveiling of a
performance tire, dubbed the RS3, that meets and beats the BFG
holding the heavyweight title. A full day of exhibition and open
lapping in six Roush Performance Stage3 Mustangs proved one of the most
exciting events of the season.
Various media personnel, tire distributors, and VIPs were in attendance at Gingerman Raceway to get a firsthand look at what Roush and Cooper have been toiling away at. The morning started with a technical overview of the RS3, a technical overview of the track, and last, but not least, the renowned roar and burble of a Roush Mustangs exhaust note on the grid.
The overall participant base (Roush crew, Cooper crew, media, etc) were split into four groups that were assigned to pilot the Roush Stage3 Mustangs on the track. Needless to say, a fantastic time was had by all. One of the special guests of the day was Jack Roush, Jr. I had a chance to speak a spot with Jack over lunch and find out some good detail about his history with Roush Performance and Roush Racing. Talk about a stand-up guy! After lunch, he took me out in one of the Stage3 Mustangs for a few laps during session. I was elated and impressedit was awesome! In fact, it was so awesome, I was daring enough to ask Jack to ride shotgun and he accepted.
During our laps, he offered up some tips for some turns and opportunities to shave down the lap time. It was an honor and privilege to get that kind of exposure & acknowledgment.
As I mentioned several times, the event was a success and every participant had a good time throughout. If they didnt, they either lacked blue blood or just plain didnt know how to have fun!
Until next time, all. I sincerely hope you enjoyed the live Twitter coverage and the gallery of images we here at StangNet are proud to share with the Ford Mustang enthusiast community.
