American Muscle to Sponsor Land Speed Record Attempt
American Muscle has its sights set on supporting what could be the latest
car to break the current land speed record of 187mph. This record stands for a production
supercharged vehicle running with stock internals over a standing
mile. Robert Self, age 73, will attempt
to break the current record on April 5th & 6th (2008)
at the East Coast Timing Association (ECTA) in Maxton, North Carolina. On the 1 mile by 30ft abandoned track, he
hopes to hit a top speed of 200 to 210 mile per hour, yet still keeping a safe
stop cushion.
Inside the Ford GT is a complete custom roll cage, a Halon fire
extinguishing system, and drag chute to make sure the ride to two-hundred is a
safe one. The performance pieces on the
car were provided by SCT, with a custom tune by Swarr Auto in Pennsylvania.
Over $30,000 of additional aftermarket upgrades have made their way into
the car, making the overall investment just over $200K. The promotion of the run to 200 will be
spearheaded by American Muscle, so be prepared to enjoy the exciting event as
it unfolds next month.
