2011 Ford Shelby GT500 nearly sold out

It’s no secret once the 2011 Ford Mustang was promised to return with the legendary 5.0-liter V8 that the car and its many Ford variants would sell like ice cream in the Mojave desert.  So what happens when we  have a Mustang coupe with a V6 pumping out over 300hp and a Mustang GT producing over 400hp?  You wonder just how awesome the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 had to be.

Well, the 550 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque (10 horsepower increase vs model year 2010) equipped 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 is just that–awesome.  It’s so popular (and much better in all ways) that Ford is going to limit the 5,500 production set of the Shelby GT500 to maintain exclusivity of the car.  This is great for would-be 2011 GT500 owners, but not so great if you happen to be the 5,501st person to place your order.  What’s more daunting is that over 3,300 orders have already been filed to date, leaving under half of the production run up for grabs.

So what do you think about this, guys?  Good move (production limitations) by Ford?  Not so good?  Let us hear it in the comments–in the meantime, check out the Press Release from Ford to get the rest of the scoop.

2011 Ford Mustang V6 hits 49mpg in 1,000 lap challenge

What happens when you mix a group of die-hard Ford engineers, a renowned oval track, and a bone-stock 2011 Ford Mustang V6?  You get some fine folks out to make a mark in history and put their hooves to the pavement, making history for the legendary pony car.  Most of the time, a Ford Mustang rider is out for pure speed, cornering, lap times, or straight-line bursts of adrenaline.  This time, on June 23rd, 2010, a team of Ford fanatics were out for one thing and one thing only; economy.  Wait.  What?

Yes, the 1,000 mile lap challenge held at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee pitted a base 2011 Mustang against, who else, but itself and its own design & engineering specifications.  The goal: see just how far the V6 Mustang could go on just one tank of fuel.  Well, after over twelve and a half ours after the green flag, the Mustang covered 1,457 laps with an average speed of 43.9 mph and the 16-gallon fuel tank was sipped at a miserly 48.9 mpg.  That’s right, folks–the new Mustang V6, sporting 305hp, was able to eek out compact and sub-compact fuel economy numbers…in a sterile environment.  Either way, who cares?  This just goes to show how well Ford and its team have it together in this latest pony car installment.

Keep reading to catch the official Ford press release as well as a video clip showing some highlights of the 1,000 lap challenge.

Hope yet remains for a BOSS Ford Mustang return

2012_Ford_Mustang_Boss_302

We’ve got to keep the rumor mill crankin’, right?  We all saw and drooled over the Ford Racing BOSS 302R from late last year.  We have witnessed the return of the legendary 5.0 Mustang.  Now, we have caught wind of some continued buzz surrounding the return of a street-trimmed BOSS Mustang.  Mark Fields, Ford President of the Americas, recently dropped a hint/clue/seed/tale that the BOSS moniker could make its way back to production.

“We did the Bullitt, we did a Mach 1, we did the C/S.  I can’t tell you what the next special edition Mustang will be, but I can give you a hint.”

Shortly after his teaser lines, a 1970 BOSS 302 Mustang thundered across the hosting dealership stage and Fields remarked, “Is that a subtle enough hint?”

Let’s hope so, Mark.  Let’s hope so.

2011 Ford Mustang DUB Edition

2011_mustang_DUB_edition

It has begun.  The 2011 Ford Mustang aftermarket looks like it’s going to be just as hot as, if not hotter, than that of the first generation (2005 – 2009 model years) S197 Mustang.  Ford, Roush, and automotive lifestyle magazine DUB have teamed up to spice up their very own 2011 Mustang variant, bringing about some increased attention to the car’s base point.  The car isn’t based up on the new 5.0 Mustang GT; it’s based upon the rev-sexy 3.7-liter V6 Mustang coupe.

2011 Mustang DUB Edition will serve as a kickoff to the many exciting projects Ford has coming down the pike.  Its many upgrades include tires, springs, body paneling, and lots more.  Couple this DUB edition along with the Nelly DUB edition 5.0 we saw just months ago, and you’ve got a great recipe for the DUB Magazine tour, set to traverse the entire country through November.

Keep reading to get all the specifics on the DUB Edition Mustang as well as a few other predicated thoughts from Ford in the press release after the jump.

Video: Mustang beats Camaro and Challenger

mustang_camaro_challenger

Mere weeks after the wrapping was removed from the 2011 Ford Mustang GT, media moguls everywhere got some good seat time in, putting the latest Ford pony car through the paces.  The gents at Motor Trend were some of the first to officially chronicle a sanctioned test between three of the major competitors in the pony car wars.  The 2011 models tested were the 5.0-liter Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro SS, and the Dodge Challenger SRT-8.  They were stacked head to head and rigorously tested on the track as well as the open road.  In the video after the jump, Motor Trend quickly notes that the new 5.0 Mustang is by far the closest thing to a true modern day muscle car; something powerful, agile, and surprisingly comfortable to drive.

The time has come.  The very first of the media magnates have grabbed the reins of the 2011 Ford Mustang coupe & 2011 ford Mustang GT and put them both through the wringer.  The consensus amongst Motor TrendAutoblog, and TheCarConnection seems to paint a very similar picture: Ford has got a winner here.  Let’s face it; the return of the 5.0 in the 2011 Ford Mustang GT is a big deal.  Ford’s golden goose is back to bring miles-o-smiles to many a Mustang enthusiast’s face.  With its 302ci power plant back underhood, the 2011 Mustang GT pumps out (an underrated) 412hp & 390tq which is still less than the latest Camaro SS, but the Ford pony car has the bow tie beast beaten in the weight department…amongst many others.  The latest Mustang GT is a balanced machine of power, precision, and engineering  refinement; a true testament to the quality-focused initiatives Ford is pushing for in these recent times.  Keep reading for a brief capsule of what everyone’s saying; we expect to get our paws on a 2011 Mustang very soon to give you guys a true Mustang Enthusiast’s review!
