The renowned Barber Motorsports park held host to a notable happening this past weekend: three Ford Mustang racing teams took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place to pound the podium with blue-blooded pride. After coming up short last year at Barber, the JBS Motorsports Ford Mustang, piloted by Bret Seafuse & James Gue, reached the top after leading 65 of the 90 circuits. The next car following in this Grand-AM KONI Sports Car Challenge event was the No. 59 Rehagen Racing Ford Mustang, which led for the race twice for seven laps. Rounding out the podium in the 3rd slot were Billy Johnson and Jack Roush Jr in the No. 61 Horsepower Racing Mustang, providing a true Ford sweeper at Barber. After seeing just how successful the last Experimental Aircraft Association auction of the Ford Mustang AV8R was, the powers-that-be decided it best to bring about another pony car spin-off to the block for this year’s gathering. Oshkosh is the scene for the auction of the 2010 Mustang AV-X10 which is treated to a star-and-bar glass roof, GT500 wheels, spoiler, and lower rear fascia, as well as some World War II inspired lacquer. With orange trim on the nose and tail, a snow white AV-X10 tail stripe, and an official “Dearborn Doll” fuselage pinup, the AV-X10 is in no doubt a great continuation of respect and honor to the US Armed Forces, just as the Roush P-51B was. Aside from the decor and paint, the AV-X10 is also packed with plenty of punch to compliment its patriotic appearance. The based 4.6-liter V8 has been nudged upward by the Ford Racing Performance Parts 550 horsepower supercharger kit, a tuned FR500S exhaust setup, and is equipped with the FRPP Handling Pack. On the inside, a few nice touches help the pilot keep the pony on the road [course]. A short-throw shifter, an aircraft-themed instrument cluster, seats done up in bomber-jacket leather, and aluminum dash trim all give this 2010 Mustang AV-X10 the official USAF feel from times past. So how do we bring this glory of the past to the present? Couple up this nostalgic glory and decor with a push-start button from today and the cash you’ve been saving since the past.

The 21st Annual Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup was held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for the 13th time this past weekend (June 18th-21st, 2009). The eye candy packed Ford Mustang gathering included events such as a blackjack run, autocross, and a show ‘n shine. StangNet.com was fortunate to attend the Show ‘n Shine this year. The temperature hovered in the 60s with the sun shining brightly for perfect viewing conditions and the people of Steamboat Springs treated us to a great time. We were able to talk to many car owners and listen to their unique stories. Seeing the cars is only half of the fun: mingling with other Mustang owners is something that we should all take time to do more often. You never know who you may meet; he or she could be one of your neighbors. For more information about the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup, please visit RMMR.org. After this past whirlwind of a weekend, we have barely had enough time to sit down, reflect, and think about what just happened at the 45th Anniversary Celebration of the Ford Mustang in Birmingham. Now, on a Monday afternoon, it’s all starting to soak in. We ran into thousands of Mustang fans, hundreds of vendors, hung out at the CDC booth (assisted in some installations!), caught some sweet racing at Barber, and of course, caught a feast for the eyes (hot cars) as well as the belly (good, down-home cooking). Most importantly, we were able to share about 95% of the 45th Mustang Anniversary LIVE with you, the Ford Mustang enthusiast community. Between our twitter coverage and live video, we did our best to make sure fans were able to see what they wanted to, regardless of attending the celebration. Continue Reading →
