i just recieved my MSD distributor from my parts guy. and its got a warning tag on it. it says the distributor gear is made of billet steel. and not to use it with iron cams etc....

well when i bought my car. it already had a ford motorsports 'b' cam in it?
and the receipt from summit showed the part #. i looked it up. its a cast iron cam.

i emailed MSD's tech address. asking. no reply. been a couple days too.. and i really need to get this done NOW on my 2 days off.

ive been told its okay to do, because its a ford cam. and ive also been told no, buy a iron cam gear?

can somebody clear this up for me please. thanks in advance

I just threw my Pro billet MSD in with a E-303 over 2 years ago and never had a problem. I pulled it last month and the gear looks great. I assume you are in the same boat and would tell you tp go ahead and stick er' in. The gear on the B cam is the same as the stock cam, thats why you can throw a cam in without changing the distributor. I dont see why it cant be done the other way around, ya know. Just my $.02

All hydro-roller cams have a steel gear. Stay with the one you have. The only time you would need to switch would be if for some reason you were running a flat tappet cam or a solid roller. If it was an early style non-efi MSD distributor, they need a steel gear installed because they come with cast.
