Switching to Synthetic Oil

Aight guys, my car is a 2001 w/ 364?? miles and its time for an oil change. Anyway I know a lot of guys use synthetic so I figured I'd switch over to that, but I've heard that if you want to do that you have to get all the regular oil flushed out of the engine. Is this true, that you can't mix synthetic w/ regular? And also, what brand and grade of oil is everybody using?

mobil 1 5w-30 with a motorcraft FL-820S filter. you dont have to flush it, mobil 1 is compatable with all dino oils. just change your oil like you would normally, put in the mobil 1, and next time you change the oil almost all of the dino oil will drain out.

Man is this thread going to open a can of worms when it comes to synthetic oil choices, however, Mobil 1 is a good choice. I use it.

let you car break in properly, then just start using it. Change every 5,000 miles to avoid warrenty issues. 3,000 mile intervals is a waste of money.

BTW, I am a chemiical engineer and my best friend works for an oil additive company (the world's largest). He started in R&D. The biggest advantage of synthetic oil over mineral oil is that it will extend the time between major engine overhauls. Don't believe anything else.

I have three vehicles in my driveway. I use it on my Suburban, because I will keep it for 150k + miles and on the Mustang because I only change the oil twice a year anyway. My primary car, 2002 Intrepid, I use mineral oil because I put 50K miles on it at year. Change every 6,000 miles and get rid of it just before it hits 100k. So how you drive your car and how long you plan to keep it makes a difference.

You shouldnt have any issues, I personally recommend Mobil 1 5w30.

If you want your motor to last, use synthetic or at the very least a blend, end of discussion Dino oils only should be used until the motor is broken in IMO!

BPM, time for an oil change.
Use Mobil 5w-30, and keep the oil full.
