Installation of a 3550 into a Fox. What I need to know????

Like it says.. I am going to be putting a 3550 into my 83 GLX 5.0. I already have the double hump cross and what not... I need to know exactly what I need to modify on the crossmember for the 3550 to fit it. Any info would be great and maybe a tech article with pictures? Thanks

Nick

All you need to modify is the opening where the shifter comes up to the cockpit needs to be bigger. You also need to modify where the crossmember is on the car it needs to be moved back.

as long as your car is an original manual equipped, you won't have to modify the trans tunnel. if your doing an auto to 5 speed conversion, that's a whole different story.

on that trans x member, where the tubes are on either end, you'll see how those tubes are tac welded onto the trans x member. grind off those little tac welds, which will allow the x member tubes to slide forward and back. that's all you'll have to modify. as long as you have the 3550 bell, everything else should bolt right up.
