Hey, I just bought a 89 5.0 LX with the T-5 and 140 MPH Speedo. When I got the car, he said the speedo just stopped working out of no where while he was driving. I took the dash apart, and spun the cluster by hand, with the speed registering all the way up to 100 MPH. So then I took the red gear out of the trans, and spun that by hand, and it spun where it goes into the cluster. The teeth on the gear look ok other then 3-4 teeth that look like they are melted. Could the gear in the transmission have gone bad? And if so, how do you replace that? Or how much am I looking at to have that replaced?
I am also switching from a 3.27's to 3.73 within the next 2 weeks, so which color gear should I replace the red with? Thanks.
