there is a guy fairly local to me and he has a 67 couger that he is parting out that has a 9 inch rear. I was wondering if it would bolt up to my 65 coupe?

It will bolt in to your 65 but the axle housing will be too wide just like a 67-70 Mustang's and you will need different offset rims to make everything fit properly.

Thats what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. So would it be worth 200$ even though I would have to cut it down? I only has 3.00 gears and open diff.

I wouldn't pay $200 for a rear end that I have to spend a bunch of money getting cut down to fit in my car....but that is just me. I can find a 9" in a salvage yard for $100-150 any day I want if I don't care about width. You can order the size you need from Currie or Moser with the correct axles for about $700 or less and get a pumkin from a salvage yard for $50. You will have to get new axles if you have it cut down and they are about $300 and by the time you get the axle housing cut down (assuming they do it right) you are going to be real close to the cost of a Currie/Moser setup that you will know is right.

Where do you live? If you don’t get it I would be interested. It would fit just fine in my 67. I’m not a big fan of parts cars but if he is going to do it anyway at least I could give some life to the parts.

Yeah, he is in TN. I think I'm going to do like Ron said and go the currie route.

If you go the Currie route then you need to thing about getting 31 spline axles because now would be the time since there is no price difference. If you choose to go with 31 spline alxes as insurance to future upgrades then you can get an appropriate pumkin out of a Ford truck.

Yeah, When I order it from Currie I definatly will do 31 spline. Also will their early style type 9 inch houseing be the way to go? I mean this will be a street car but I don't want to ruin that one if I should get one of the more expensive ones.

You can run the 67 cougar rear end....with late model wheels....with no spacer!

Why not just buy an 8in center section.. You can get a 8in center with posi traction and any gear ratio from 3.00 to over 5.00 for about $500. or so plus shipping. it will take about 4 hour or so to install and you are back an the road..

well I have an 8 now but I'm planning on big horse power and torque down the road.
