| | | White Face Gauges...opps
So it was nice out today and I decided to go ahead and finally change my Gauges over to the Mac white face ones that have been sitting on my tool box for a couple months. Everything went fine until I went to put the needles back on... and like the dumbass I am I didnt note the position of of them befroe I took them off. Anyone have any ideas as to how to get them where they are supposed to b. I am planning on filling up my car with gas tomorrow so I can get that one. I did notice that the speedo is off. It says I am doing 50 when I think I am only doing 30 or so. Should I just take them off again and then just put them to the stop pin? any help would b cool.. |

what year is your stang? best thing to do if you have a 99+ GT is place the needles on while reading the digital readout: http://mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/dtcodes.htm
just drive the car, and set cruise control on at 50 according to the readout and place the needle on. Do the same thing for the tach while the cruise control is on, or while the car is at idle. this is what i did and it worked great  my gas gauge is SLIGHTLY off, but no big deal. |

So you did not read the instructions  Leave the gauge cluster loose then start the car and let it idle. That should be around 800 rpms. install needle while car is running. Fill your gas tank and set the gas to full the same way as the rpm needle. If you remember your speedometer readings from your rpms in gear you would be able to get the MPH close after setting your rpm  |

some gauges you dont have to take the needles off, but its really not that hard. its a very simple install, just time consuming and tedious.
if someone you know has GPS, you can find your MPH from that. |

Its actually really easy to do...My only input would be to take a picture of the gauges at idle and car off...wish i would have done that |

I think I got the speedo needle and the tach needle swapped...because all of a sudden my speejumps..kinda like its moving hard then jumps up...does the same thing when slowing...it sticks then comes down |

a digital camera is very helpful during the install. i took pics of the car on/off, running at cold, warmed up, and while cruise control was on at 50mph to make sure it was right. |

When I bought my 98 the previous owner had every gauge wrong and I had to figure the mess out.If your speedo is sticking,you definitly got the needle pushed on to far.I had a friend drive beside me on the highway,when we got to 60 I just stuck the needle on.Just try not to crash while doing so.Set rpm to 800-850 while idling and engine warmed.Good luck. |

Yeah, its no big deal IMO. I did the MAC white face gauges, along with a buddy of mine. Just took em off, while drinking beer.
Installed them, while drinking beer.
Speedo was a tad off along with the Fuel gauge.
But just popped them off after a fill up and fixt the speedo as well. was Not drinking that time

I installed my gauges and had the same problem. I'm not sure if your car can do this but, if you have a dgital odometer you can depress the trip reset and hold it as you start the car and it will go into a test mode. Your odometer will show different things like rpm, speed, etc. I used that method to set my rpms. I am fortunate enough to have navigation in my car which has a gps speed reading. I had to drive at a steady speed with the gps and then pull the needle and set it right that way. Its a real PITA. As far as the needles jumping its because the needles are set to far in.

To let all of you know I fixed them today...I filled her up so I got that one easy...just warmed up the car and then set in the rpm, i knew where it idled at warm, and the spedo I just pulled it out a bit, everything works great now...anyone thinkin of doing macs...take pics..lmao |

leave the cover off, and set the tach at 800 rpms at idle, then if you know your rpms keep moving the speedo untill you get it close enough, a rough guess is 3k rpm is ~ 50mph with stock gearing, fuel adjust to full when you fill up, don't let it get down too low, temp gauge should be in the middle after you drive it down the road a few miles and back, If you can't get it I suggest getting the Autometer gauges but they are $$$expensive | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes |  Linear Mode |
