| | | Exhaust sounding wierd now...
About 3 week ago, I was driving down the road, a car was in front of me, they slowed to turn right, but didnt merge off the side of the road (which I hate when people dont turn, they just slow in the middle of the road, besides that) I got on it a little to go around them, car downshifted from od to d, and I heard a metal thing go flyiny behind the car, at least what I thought. After that, I noticed my exhaust sounded wierd for some reason. It has a semi deeper tone, but it just does not sound normal. Exhaust set up is stock headers, stock 4 cat h pipe, stock cat back with flows welded in place of stock mufflers. Could maybe I have blew out a cat or clogged a cat, or blew out some of the muffler? The mufflers are not old at all, and it doesnt sound like an exhaust leak, I know what they sound like. Its kinda hard to explain, my dad said the car sounded "hoggish", it kinda sounds likea real deep tone, I dunno. I have a UPR off road x pipe to go on, but the header bolts are so rusty, i want to wait to install shorties at the same time. Anyone have any clue? |

Well if you plugged a cat you would certainly know it. The car would be a turd.
Have you gone under the car to inspect the exahust?
Perhaps a bolt broke and is not creating a good seal between pipes. Or maybe you had some rot in the muffler and a piece fell out. Flows will rust up in a hurry once they start. Perhaps you lost an exhaust bracket and now the exhaust is hitting the unibody making it sound louder when really its just reverberating through the car.
You really need to get under and take a look. Start wiggling stuff around. |

headers are like 115 bucks, get a set, and change the headers and H pipe, to your new headers and X pipe, and see if you still hear it, could be just a something lodged in acat or muffler, but not blocking it totally, just redirecting the flow differently than when it wasn't lodged there, and thus creating diff sound - who knows, replace h and headers -
GOOD LUCK MAN

Yeah Ill see what I can do, I have been under the car and I cant see anything at all that looks like it might be causing the problem |

Something with exhaust must have gotten loose when got on it. I had a similar thing happen to me. I got a pipe loose while going up a hill. It was a little rusty in that part. No parts came off, just the weakest part gave up under backpressure. It didn't sound like what you describe though. Mine sounded like a NASCAR, almost unbearable. And that was inside the car. |

Yeah, see its wierd, cuase I know what an exhaust leak sounds like, I have had them before in other cars, and it def. doesnt sound like a normal leak, It almost seemed like the car got louder, deeper, but more "hoggier" sounding....only thing im thinking is it blew out some of the muffler or cat |

Hmm. I think it may just be a normal "aging" of the exhaust system. I think most cars with good engines and harder usage eventually get like that too. Overheating the exhaust system may also have a lot to do with it. It is interesting that you would notice the change, as I think the change is too slow to notice most of the time. |
