Trunk rust project with PICS

I decided to get rid of most of the rust in my trunk since I just got paid. I bought some of eastwoods rust encapsulator and some rust dissolvent. I used a non scratching surface steel wool pad to clean most of the spackel or some wierd bondo/paint like crap that covers the inside of the rear fenders inside the trunk. I cleaned a small area and applied the rust encapsulator just to see how this stuff would work out. The pics below show the bare metal(and surrounding crappy paint stuff with rust in some areas) and the other shows the encapsulator paint. I'll post more pics when im done

Both pics are of bare metal. BTW you don't have to go to bare metal with the Rust Encapsulator, just remove the loose rust and go at it. Of course you still want to get that tar looking crap off of there so it is actually on the metal or rust.

the first picture in the attachments show the silver encapsulator paint that I used, even though it only covers a small area of the bare metal, im gonna finish it tomorrow( or at least most of it). My parents digital camera sucks, I'll use a light to help illuminate the trunk next time. I decided to use an encapsulator because I wanted to know that I have removed all of the rust and when I get enough money im gonna get the car stripped down and have it sand blasted. But that wont be for another 4 years so this is gonna have to do for now.

dam, that sucks that you had to replace the entire trunk. Besides the rust, I have a leak somewhere and I believe its coming from the dumb rear windshield. Also I have a small problem with rodents, everytime I kill one that I find in my trunk, another one appears 3 weeks later

Couple of suggestions on keeping rodents out of your car.

1. Put a bar of Irish Spring in the car, they don't like it for some reason.

or....

2. Put a few Bounce dryer sheets in the car, same reason above. Plus, either one makes your car smell nice.

or....

3. When you go to get a haircut, take a baggie and put some of the hair in the baggie and put that in your car. Sorta funky, but no scent and it works.

I used to have a problem with mice getting into my garage, they'd chewed the end of the rubber stop on the bottom of the garage door off and were getting in at the corner. I usually buzz my hair off with the shears during the summer and I took the hair and piled it up behind the rail there in the corner, voila!! no more mice!!!

I got that idea from the movie "The Rookie" where they put hair on the baseball field to keep the deer away.

The dryer sheet trick works well for me. I always kept a fresh one under each seat. Plus it helped cover up the 37 year old seat foam smell!

It's not the foam, it's the recycled beans making their way thru the comfortweave, LOL!!!!
