Floors - Rust Encapsulator

Hey I just thought I would take some pictures of the work I have been doing on my 65 and show them here. I bought some of Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator and pulled everything out of the interior to inspect for rust and protect the floor from further rusting. I actually didn't have to much rust thankfully. I have a couple pinholes and a larger hole on the passenger side pan. So I proceeded to remove all of the old seam sealer, loose paint and crap off the floors with a scraper and wire wheels on a drill, it took a long time but it all came off ok. Cleaned with soap and washed. Then I applied the RE everywhere that is not going to be seen...in these pictures not everything is covered yet and the RE is still wet here but I have since pretty much finished. I have some paintable seam sealer that I bought from eastwood that I am now going to use on all the seams next. And tomorrow I have some Lizard Skin Ceramic Sound Insulation and Thermal Insulation coming. I am also going to order a new carpet from ACC that will have their 'mass' back to further help with sound reduction. I will post some more pictures after all the steps and I will tell you all about how well the stuff works out since I don't believe there are many real experiences here yet with Lizard Skin especially. But I would highly reccomend the RE, I have used it on my trunk previously and it is easy to work with and dries really nice looking even when painted with a brush.

Very clean job. Nice work. Did you have to take everything to bare metal for the encapsulator to work?

Thank you! I was told by a forum member here that I did not need to. The directions on the can also said to just remove loose paint and loose rust. The RE dried fine and adhered well to all the surfaces; painted, rusted, and bare metal.

Just wondering where you bought the lizard skin from and how much you paid for it. I'm getting close to painting the interior and under cariage of my car and am looking for some ideas.

I got it from Summit Racing's website. I think I paid $180 for each bucket and I got 1 bucket of the Sound Reducer and 1 bucket of the Thermal Insulation.

Progress looks good, I will be doing the same to my interior this fall/winter when I redo my interior, but I will be using Por15. I've heard of a lot of people saying Rust Encapsulator is better, but I had great results when I did my trunk with Por so I'm just gonna stick with them. Looks really clean though!

Rust Encapsulator

I also used the Rust Encapsulator on my interior...

I loved the product...

Thinned it 2/3 Rust Encapsulator 1/3 laqure thinner (I think) per their tech support...

Sprayed it using a a cheap spray gun...

Results were good...

I'll try to post some pics too.

I highly recommend all of Eastwoods products...everything I have used has been top notch!

The Lizard Skin product went over the Rust Encapsulator product very well. Like I said before I used both the Thermal and Sound Control stuff and I painted both products on with a paintbrush because I did not want to buy their gun thing. The paintbrush worked better with the Sound Control and was tougher with the Thermal stuff but I didn't think it was that difficult. The Thermal layer goes on last and it does leave an uneven surface and looks like cement but I don't really mind, maybe some sanding here and there and some paint would make it look better if you really wanted which I might do. I have been driving it now for about a month and while I don't think I can completely rate the product yet as I havn't gotten the complete firewall yet I can say that the transmission tunnel does not get as hot as it used to. I'm not really sure about sound reduction as I hadn't driven it for so long and like I said I havn't finished but it seems like it may have helped with exhuast noise but you would really need to compare with a car without it and one with or a dB meter before and after or something. There is also a hole in the firewall to the engine compartment that needs to be fixed...So in the end the product worked well for me in terms of application but I won't know for sure of its functionality until I finish covering the firewall on the inside and finish up with the whole project..... The reason I didn't do it was because I want to cover the whole thing up under the dash and I wasn't ready to remove all the crap from under there. I will put up a picture of the finsihed work but it is a really bad picture. I will be doing more work with it this winter so I'll have more pictures in the future along with more comments about the stuff.
