What's with these diesels?

I don't get it. It seems to be an ever increasing trend around my parts to buy a turbo diesel, jack it up, put huge tires on it and a huge 1,000 watt subwoofer system in it and then race with it. I don't get it.

I was coming home from the dirt track the other night in the stang and I hear this loud exhaust and turbo behind me and I look up and just laugh when I see it's a truck. I don't even give him the pleasure of trying. He passes me and I'm just dumbfounded to see an F-250 turbo diesel trying to race. Granted, they can be fast and we've all see the videos but what's the deal?

It was almost as bad as the avalanche I've seen that the bottom of it is at my neck. I'm 5'9. It also has a trailer hitch. I'd like to see the trailer he's going to tow. When he turns it looks like it's going to fall over.

I'll have to get pics of these trucks to show you guys. It's incredible.

Ive got a 6.5" with 37's on my DD stroker. My brother has a 10" with 40's on his. They are a lot of fun. Mine will spank my stock mustang.

Have you ever driven one? They are badass. I hate to burst your bubble, but that truck might have given you a run for your money, probally not have beaten you, but you might have been suprised. They don't corner badly at all. The cool things about those trucks is that they are responsive to mods. With just a computer programmer they can see huge gains. 400rwhp and over 1000rwtq is not hard to achieve. Neither is 12's in the 1/4 and even 11's. The mpg on diesel is much better than gas.

personally i like jacked up trucks, to me if your gonna have a truck you should use it as a truck and be able to offorad a little bit with it, no offence to the mini-truck guys cause they can be nice. and turbos can be lots of fun cause $10 and home depot can give you a cheap manual boost controller

to answer the original post, i have too noticed alot more big turcks rolling around, maybe its a bit of a trend.

i have no problem with big trucks... just ricers and people revving up their diesel powered cars and racing... diesel and racing do not go in the same sentence togethor.

Today i raced my friends 1978 Honda 550Four bike and smoked him... only took them both up to 110km (so in other words like a 7 second race)... this crx that was behind us when we took off (25km roll) ended up passing me about 2 minutes later... my friend said the guy was flooring it the whole time lmao... had the spoiler and the rims exhaust you know... your typical street speed demons. I still hate kids who race 4 bangers and then claim that no matter how much money they throw at their car and how much boost they run, if my stock v8 can't keep up then its complete garbage because i have twice the cylinders they do... twice the brains usually too.

my buddy has a diesel Chevy, he can run in the 13's all day long, gets 14mpg...and he can use it for work.
If that doesn't raise an eyebrow, I don't know what will.

I got SMOKED (pun intended) by an F350 diesel when i first got my coupe.

Oh....and diesel and racing DO go together, as long as there's TURBO along with it.

Diesel trucks are the new "thing" now, mostly due to the diesel horsepower war in detroit. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a diesel super duty myself and may look into getting one if I ever get a job, but the price on those things is insane. Hell, the prices on new trucks in general is out of control. An F-250 or F350 XL (base model) 4x4 standard cab, with just a few options, and a diesel, will run north of $35K. Even with the base V8 it's still $28+.

no such thing as a diesel horsepower war.. it's a torque war.

diesels are bad ass. They can run with most any stock car, outrun them with chips and exhaust, get 20+ mpg on the hiway, tow over 10k lbs AND they can easily be converted to run on used grease from any fast food joint (ie, they can run on free fuel)

what's not to like? I would trade the mustang for a 250 or Cummins ANY day. My wife works for Cummins, so that's another advantage

I dont make much money right now but i figured that was a fair price since a damn mustang can run 25-30k.

I had an F-250 give me a pretty good run on the way to work. I got into it pretty good from a light just messing around and I look to my left and there is this big assed truck keeping up with me. All I could do was say "DAMN"!!! He laughed.

ill just laugh when big ol speedy drives too fast and someone pulls out in front of them, and they try to maneuver around, forgetting their center of gravity sits 10 feet in the air, and completely roll over the car they were trying to avoid.

whats the deal with all of these jackasses though driving like dicks! and they get next to you and gun it to hear this big ol holset spooling like a jet engine. please urban cowboy, your HX40 does not impress me, i put them on measly 4bangers, for ****s and giggles, and many a awd that have seen more dirt than your mighty Ram will ever see. i just downshift into 2nd and lay waste and squeeze between some traffic to get away from these ****tards, on occasion i will just find a curve and lose them, or a parking lot where they must do a 3 pointer to get into, cause theyre afraid to get their lifted urban gem dirty.

I didn't say he wouldn't give me a run. In fact, I KNOW he would beat me. I just don't get the big deal with everyone getting diesels and then racing them. I love trucks, in fact I own one and wouldn't mine having more power especially for towing my race car. You can't sit here and tell me that a F250 was DESIGNED to be a race truck. The lightning yes, the F250 I highly doubt it.

I just don't get it. Hell, put a turbo or a charger on the stang and what happens? Bye bye F250's with chips. My race car would definitely put a hurting on those cars and most any ones around my parts, tubro or not if I could get it on a street. As for Honda's, I can turn 7500 RPM's fast than you can :P

show me one news article or ANYTHING showing a jacked up diesel powered truck (newer fad style) rolling over.

Now, go find some articles or pictures of stupid import fad cars doing the same. Hell, even Mustangs that are fixed up that are wrecked

hmmmmmm

I agree! Basically any car will lose to the truck in an accident....

And tow trailers? And go on dirt roads? And go in the snow? Not likely.
