| | | P1443.. What does it mean?
Since I purchased my GT, the check engine light has been coming on and off. It usually only stays on for a few minutes every 2 weeks. I went to AutoZone while the CEL was on, and they gave me this code.. P1443. It says on the reciept they gave me, "Evaporative emission control system control valve." First of all, is this that bad? Second, where is this so called valve? If it has something to do with the midpipe, I'm just gonna fix it by an o/r pipe with some MIL eliminators. So, help me please! |

I had that code once or twice a long time ago. It was caused by the gas cap(loose). I just reset the code and never saw the code again. HTH |

yeah, they reset the code for me but i hope it doesnt come back. I noticed that my gas cap doesnt feel like it locks in too tight, but it still seems tight enough to not cause a problem.... |

this code will not be set by the gas cap being loose.. that code would be for a gross evap leak, this is a electrical fault most likely a bad evap canister purge valve. take a look at the electrical connector on it and make sure it's ok. |

what year is the car?
if its pre 1998, I'd suspect the canister purge solenoid and the thermistor, very common problems on pre 1998's wth 60k or more |
