Iran is not a wealthy country. they are poor and desperate. those are the dangerous countries. much like Germany was before both wars.

I usually don't jump into these political threads, but there was a new issue that popped up today.

Russia declared that any attack on Iran would be a "grave mistake", and that the russians are now backing the iranians. Bad news all around...

That being said, if Israel, and by extension the US does not invade Iran, one day those nuclear weapons WILL find their way to our soil It is not a matter of if, it is most definitely a matter of when. On that hand, I say let's turn their sandy desert into a huge sheet of glass. On the other hand, I'd hate to have another cold war with Russia.

Screw it, when November comes, I'm voting for General George Patton, and his running mate Charlton Heston... I don't give a **** if they're dead or not, but I've got a feeling we're going to need men of that caliber in the coming years...

Russia will do nothing if Iran is attacked. as long as the majority of NATO is against Iran, Russia doesn't have a leg to stand on. the only reason Russia cares is because they are making money buy selling Iran nuclear services.

All that oil they have doesn't count for anything?

Given, they're not as wealthy as a lot of other nations, but they're certainly more well-equipped than Iraq was before we went in there, and their people are an even more hardcore group of religious zealots than the Iraqis. Remember the Iran-Iraq war? Waves upon waves of unarmed civillians, and even little kids with guns, gleefully charging into mine fields and machine gun fire to die in the name of Allah.

An Israel-Iran war would be a freakin' horrible mess for everyone. Short of Israel lobbing a bunch of nukes over there all at once, I don't think anyone in the world has the cajones to completely obliterate that country as thoroughly as it would need to be in order to be "conquered" or for anyone to declare it a "win." It's not something we could win from the air with a bunch of bombing/strafing runs - too many of those little buggers on the ground, scattered all over. And it's not something we could just roll in with ground forces and squash in a few weeks or months. It would be drawn-out, bloody, and messy, no matter what.

We have superior firepower and forces, but like the military is being slow to realize in Iraq, these people don't play by any "rules" that we're used to following in conventional warfare. We play by the "rules" of morality. We have troops being court-martialed for shooting wounded combatants, whereas the Iranians would delight in watching high-definition video of a captured, bound and blindfolded G.I. getting his head sawed off with a dull knife while a bunch of masked men yell "Allahu akbar!" over and over. We're restrained by public opinion polls, the international community as a whole, and wahhhhhhmbulance-chasers.

If/When Iran and Israel officially decide to throw down and duke it out, the best thing we could do is stay the funk out of it as best we can. If we get tangled up in that, we'll end up not only being the "bad guy" of the whole mess, but we'll end up paying the bill for it in the long run, too. More terrorist attacks domestically and internationally in retaliation for supporting Israel, not just from Iranians but also from countries sympathetic to Iran (pretty much every Islam-run country in the Middle East). We'll end up trying to "rebuild" the leftover mess down there, and we'll see more contractors getting abducted and beheaded, more IED's, more random sniper attacks ... y'know, pretty much the same crap we're already seeing in Iraq and Afghanistan, just on a larger scale.

That, and of course all of that nuclear fallout would kind of suck for everyone, globally...

FOXNews.com - Israel Considering Military Strike on Iranian Nuclear Sites - International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News

Quote:
"If Israeli, U.S., or European intelligence gets proof that Iran has succeeded in developing nuclear weapons technology, then Israel will respond in a manner reflecting the existential threat posed by such a weapon," said Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz, speaking at a policy forum in Washington last week.

"Israel takes (Iranian President) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's statements regarding its destruction seriously. Israel cannot risk another Holocaust," Mofaz said.

Quote:
Russia has so far not gone through with a proposed sale to Iran of S-300 surface-to-air missiles, an even more powerful air defense system than the Tor-M1. An Israeli defense official said the deal is still on the table, however. This is a big source of consternation for Israel because the system could significantly complicate a pre-emptive Israeli assault on Iran.

You obviously don't know how elections go in this country. Whether you LIKE it or not, popular vote doesn't mean you win it. And last I heard, Bush did win in FL...

I voted for Bush but...

In statistics class we found it statistically IMPOSSIBLE that Bush won the are of Florida in question given their voting habits for the past 50 years.

In other news, Strype quoted the word "consternation" which I find funny.

It would be the logical choice, so thats what I would do.

Yep.

The only people I consider dumber than Bush, are the ones who voted for him the second time around. How does it go? Fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice, shame on me! If anything, he's got great representation and an outstanding campaign team.

I would like to think the elections were stolen.

I really don't want to think Americans were dumb enough to vote for the Idiot once, not to mention twice.

Then I read these threads and I'm not so sure.

Are you referring to the industry in which he ruined two oil companies (even with the help of his dad and his buddies keeping him afloat) before going tits up?
But But But he made great money on a ball team!!!! ... After using his connections to have private property seized for the teams new stadium which I believe he had the tax payers build .... Then sold his share before he had a chance to crash it like his other companies..... Yes, a True New Age Success.

This may not be 100% accurate, close enough for who it's for.

For the record, I don't consider him an "idiot" in the traditional sense. But he's not a great speaker, very often makes rash decisions without thinking them through, he has a reckless attitude towards politics and a dangerous arrogance about him that's gotten him and as a result America into trouble on many an occasion.

Your too kind.

I thing the greatest damage Shrub has done to this nation has been his lack of intellectual curiosity has shown todays children that being ignorant is cool.

Me, I'm stocking up on supplies, edged weapons, and blunt, heavy objects in preparation of the inevitable zombie holocaust. Your assault rifles will only be useful as clubs once you run out of ammo trying to cut down the zombie hoardes! ... which I'm sure China will begin using if/when such a war begins.
