| | Their number came up when Steve left to run a Chinese company. Not to mention their new cars are a total let down IMO. They just lost something along the way. I'd own a Roush over a Saleen any day (at least the new ones). |

| | It might just be another sign of the rough economic times. I had wondered how so many people were coming up with the huge bucks to buy toys like Saleens and OCC choppers. Cash out home refinancing was doing a lot of it I guess. Now that that well has gone dry watch for a few other specialty companies to go out of business. |

| | Steve Saleen left to start another company that imports cars from china and design thier own sports cars. They just built a huge r&d facility in so-cal. Sounds like he sold saleen for a killing and took the profits to start over. |

| | Saleen Foxes are becoming rare, and the name has history. But IMHO I think they are over rated. A gimmick if you would, made back in the 80's when people were "starving" for muscle. |

| | Steve was actually fired by the money people that took the company over from him a few years back. He was basically a figurehead from the time they came in anyway. He was hired and then fired by the Chinese company within a few months, has now started up a new company called SMS Supercars and is going racing again. I spoke to him last month and he is very excited about the new projects.
As far as Saleen Inc going out of business, not that I've heard. The auctions are to liquidate equipment and inventory at two old facilities as they move into their new one.
And yes, Saleens have lacked a lot of the elements of what made them Saleens since Steve left, IMO. It seems like their entire schtick these days is putting a particular paint scheme on 10 cars and calling it a "Limited Edition". |

| | That's a big negatory good buddy.
The 89 and up SSC's and SC's were H/C/I 5.0's that put down 300 hp, but they didn't start doing 351's until they started building SN95 S351's. There were also a few Saleen/Vortech supercharged Foxes made during the 90's. |

In the '80s there weren't many cars in that price range that could handle like they could. Maybe they're not legendary by todays standards but they fit the bill at the time.
By comparison there isn't a single muscle car by any maker that ran ETs that are amazing by todays standards, but people still make a big deal out of it. |

| | I never liked the S197 Saleens. They weren't a Mustang anymore. He has always taken the Mustang out of the Saleen, with Roush its still a Mustang...if you know what I'm talking about. |

Legendary is in the eye of the beholder. Back when they 1st came out (In Foxes) they were treated as no big deal. Today they hold some weight in the "Legendary factor". |

I dont care for the S197 Saleen myself, to me it's trying to look like a S7 especially around the rear end.
I love the new edge Saleens though... now if I could afford and find the rare 1999 Saleen S351. 'Factory' pushrod powered new edge... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
