Not sure. I just took off my 3 year old Bassani's and rusted 3' tails and put my flows back on. I also bought some Flow Master tail pipes to replace my rusted Bassani's. Man they sound good!

I had them from 3 years ago. Only have a few thousand miles on them. They are 3 chambers, not overly loud, but what a sound!

Ya know, I never did a sound clip, I'll put one up tomorrow!

It's not any louder, maybe a different tone though. I have a catted X pipe.

mac sounds like ass with an h pipe, if you want the best sounding mustang exhaust without spending crazy money for something like bassani, combine a mac cat back with an off road x pipe and never look back...amazing sound, better than any flowmaster...and i love the sound of 3 chambers...but the mac with an x is the best

+1

I had an American Thunder cat-back on an '89 GT with an offroad X-pipe feeding it and even with the X, it droned bad enough to give me headaches. It got even worse when I put a built engine in it. There are ways to reduce the Flowmaster drone, but not without modifying the exhaust.

I have the American thunder cat back w/high flow cats on a BBK H-pipe. Both of the following videos were taken when the cat back was new, so it has opened up a bit more as it has aged. Also, I just put headers on and that made the sound change a little for the better.

Idle and rev:
american thunder, h-pipe w/high flow cats- Video

Drive away:
Mustang Drive Away- Video

You can get the exact system you are looking for here:

Yes, you are correct, my fault. I looked at Jegs and i don't see the american thunder listed for 85. I assume it should be the same as the 87-93 lx, though. you could call flowmaster and ask, just to make sure it fits.

By the way, i agree with your decision to go with flowmaster. To me, it is the nicest sounding mufler for the mustang.

I had a MAC cat-back on my car for 4 years. It sounded okay, but i never really liked it. Every time i heard a Mustang with flowmasters drive by. I was jealous.

So one day i said screw it, bought a flowmaster A/T cat-back and put it on. Never been happier.

When i bought my '03 GT. I had the Flowmaster A/T cat-back waiting for it before I even had the car home!

You really can't go wrong with Flows...they are a good sounding muffler even if they are a bit over used. It's funny how the Mustang world kinda goes full circle sometimes. For the loooongest time Flowmaster was THE muffler to get, hands down. Anybody who was anybody who had a Mustang had Flows on it. Then all these other companies hit the scene and after a while the Flows got overshadowed. Granted there are IMO better sounding mufflers out there, the Flows (with tail pipes preferably) still sound good and have that classic 5.0 sound i grew up with.

There's a guy who lives somewhere close to me that i see all the time with a new edge Mustang and it sounds AWESOME. Finally a couple weeks ago i stopped him and asked what mufflers he was using, and wouldn't you know it they were just 2 chamber Flows with an offroad X and tails on a mostly stock 4.6.

I hate the "I hate flowmasters because everyone has them arguement"

We drive Mustangs....nothing we can do to our cars is really originally. I get sick of going to Mustang shows because I see 10-15 mustangs with the same mods on them.

We're pretty much spoiled because there's so many options. The mufflers you run are almost like the style of clothes you wear. The Flows were "in" a few years back and now those Pypes are all the rage. Give it enough time and people will come back around to Flows.

My buddy has a stock new edge 4.6 with flows and an o/r X, man... thats one of the best sounding Mustangs I've ever heard and its LOUD too.

If I ever get a 4.6 guess what exhaust I'm getting.
