1998 Mustang Cobra, black/black NEEDS WORK. Located in Torrance, CA (15 minutes south of Los Angeles)

DISCLAIMER: This ad is aimed at folks that have a shop, or access to a shop, and can make the below mentioned repairs at cost and then sell the car for a tidy profit (or keep it and love it).

Alas, the day has finally come. I have to give up my baby. What I have for sale here is a 1998 Cobra, black on black, ~88,000 miles.

I have the following mods installed:
C&L MAF and inlet tube
Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs
GRIPP camber plates
Steeda Tri-Ax shifter
Steeda timing adjuster, currently set at factory
Alpine headunit w/ ipod controls (hell, buy the car and I’ll throw in the iPod)
Alpine4x80 amp installed on rear seat back
Alpine components front and back
The stereo really sounds great, much better than the Mach 460
If the price is right I’ll include the stereo with the car. If you don’t need it we can adjust pricing appropriately.
Cervini Stalker full body kit
Flowmaster mufflers (just the mufflers, not a cat-back)

I maintained the car myself, and took great care of it. Mobil 1 5/30 every 3000-3500 miles, fresh Redline transmission and rear diff fluid at ~80,000 miles.

The car drove great, looked great, and sounds great. I enjoyed every second in this thing, and had no plans on selling it anytime soon. However, fate intervened. Read on.

About 2 months ago, for some reason beyond my comprehension, I spun either a rod or main bearing and started hearing some nasty rod knock at certain RPM’s. Once I diagnosed the problem I stopped driving it. Right now, it is drivable, but I don’t know for how long. As far as the cause of the bearing failure, the only thing I can think of is that the oil pump had a hiccup. Plenty of oil was in the engine, no mis-shifts, and the pump seems to be working now. I was driving hard when I noticed it, but not any harder than the car is designed for. I got an estimate for a rebuild, but a new block from MMR with installation would be cheaper. At the very least, it needs a bearing replacement and possibly a rotating assembly replacement.

The other issue with the car is the body condition. It needs a new driver door skin, right rear quarter panel repair, and new side skirts, along with some minor fiberglass repair to the front bumper (about a 2” square is a little cracked). I already have new set of Cervini Stalker side skirts sitting in my garage, so they just need to be installed and painted. Each stupid ding has its own story, from hit-and-runs in the fog to ridiculous 14" curbs in Redondo Beach. The ironic thing is that I was planning on getting all the body work done in October, but then the engine problems showed up.

So with the above noted issues, I spend the last 2 months really considering whether or not it would be worth it for ME to get all of it done. If I had access to a full shop, then definitely yes. Unfortunately I do not. If you, the reader of this ad, are someone who owns a shop, works for a shop, knows someone who owns or works for a shop, etc, then you'll know that you can turn a nice profit with this car with a little work.

PRICING: $4,800 obo.

Pictures will be coming, well, hopefully soon. I only have 1, but it’s a great shot from when I was driving it home from Texas.
