so, what effect will this have if they are still paying their workers, yet they are producing nothing? And people still defend unions? (sure, if you are in one, I can understand that)

Good point.

I wonder what would happen if the general population decided to announce a boycott on union produced vehicles? Are there any non-union production plants out there?

It will help the dealers. When there is an overstock of cars in the chute, the manufacturer forces cars on you that no one wants. Then they sit on your lot and burn up your floor plan. My old store got jammed with a bunch of Jeep Commanders and fully loaded Grand Cherokees. Took some pretty bad hits on those cars.

My guess is that this is there way to show how desparate they are for bailout money....and to push the gubberment into action a little quicker.

And a lame attempt at that. To me, nothing says "we desperately need money" like paying your labor force to do nothing for week. /sarcasm

Plants close. Production ceases. Workers still get paid.

Brilliant.

Come on guys, you gotta be smarter. Closing plants, yeah they still have to pay employees. But they'll be saving money in other ways such as the costs of running the plants themselves...the purchasing of parts....etc etc.

Get off the union kick. Such one track minds. Yeah, the unions might be eating away at the industry...but its not the only reason the companies are failing. Take off your blinders plz.

See!

This just goes to show that EVERY Posse member has a voice. With your $20 per week (that's less per day than a white chocolate mocha at Starbucks) you will help sponsor threads such as "I can has cheezburger" and "Tangnet".

With your weekly contribution you will ensure that everybody gets paid more and Stangnet works for you instead of the other way around. Just ask me, I'm not only the Posse President, I'm also a client

No "it's possible" here. They are. The very fact the UAW rejected concessions for the sake of compromise proves they could care less. It's ironic and sad at the same time (bite the hand that feeds you).
