Will the Series IV Supercharger fit a 96?

Will the Series IV Supercharger fit a 96 s281. I have an opportunity to buy a used Series IV Supercharger for $3000 Canadian dollars. It has 3000 non raced miles. Is this a good deal? The guy tells me that the kit is complete minus the 30# injectors. If this would work can you give me an idea of what else I would need to modify to make this work? Thanks for your help in advance!

You'll need a pair of 2V 4.6L 1999-04 Performance Improved (PI) cylinder heads.

Scratch that....you shouldn't need to change the cylinder heads. Although the ports will be a little mismatched, you should easily be able to solve the issue with a couple of strategically placed dabs of RVT silicone, or if you're really concerned a set of NPI to PI adapter plates.

What you probably will need though, is the timing cover from a later model PI engine. Although I'm not certain of this, I believe some of the accessory placement changed between the early NPI cars and the later PI cars.

You'll probably also need to fabricate some sort of custom brackets for your coil packs, since the Series IV was built for a '99-'04 Mustang, that utilizes a COP (Coil on Plug) ignition set up. The need for custom fuel rails may also arise, since yours are based on the return style set up and the later PI cars are not.

Finally...I would skip replacing the 30lb/hr injectors with another set and go right to a set of 42lb/hr units. The 30's will be running on their ragged edge with that blower, especially if you deviate from the stock boost levels.

Any way you slice it, $3,000 isn’t a bad price for the kit assuming its complete other than the injectors.

3000 Canadian dollars = 2 400.576 U.S. dollars for that isnt to bad, but honestly if you want more than 360hp then i would scratch that. Also going from a return fuel system to a returnless is a step down in my opinion. I would just skip that idea because you will probably also need a hood. Those early hoods probably wont fit with that supercharger. Lots of custom work, degrading fuel system, 360hp sounds like not such a good deal. Go buy a used vortech for $2k or new for $3-4k and slap that on and you will easily get 400hp with that. I bought a saleen supercharger and only had it on my car 6 months. The car was faster, but i only for 320hp and was really disappointed. It was as series I, and the series IV that you would buy would net you about 360hp. If your ok with custom work then go ahead and get it, but in the end you will pay more for a supercharger that is basically at its max already. I bought my used vortech v2 on ebay for $1800 deals are out there a can be made. Thats $1800usd and $2287.98 Canadian dollers. Just search around you will find good deals.

If you want the saleen blower because you own a saleen then i would say do it, but in the end it'll cost you more money.

I think you're confusing the series IV with the Series II. The Series II is an Eaton MP90 and already makes 365hp at the flywheel in stock trim on the S281. Many have pushed these figures to the rear wheels with bolt ons and little fuss.

The Series IV on the other hand was the unit that came standard on the old S281E and knocked down 425hp at the crank in bone stock trim. It utilizes a 2.3L Twin Screw (2300AX) and would have little trouble topping 400hp at the wheels with pulley, tune and some mods to the stock intake. I've seen owners crack 500rwhp with bolt ons and cams...even with the crappy Saleen manifold.

Actually....one more correction for the thread.

The series IV was a Lysholm 1.6L twin screw that put down 375hp in stock form and came on the 03-04 supercharged cars (the one you're considering).

The series V was a lysholm 2.3L that came on the 2003 and 2004 Extremes and was the one that gearbanger was talking about that made 425hp. The smaller pulley and larger TB increased that to 445 for the 04 model year.

The series IV lysholm and the series II eaton make similar power (365 vs 375), but the series IV is more efficient due to the twin screw vs roots design.

Series V saleen superchargers are extremely hard to come by.

By the way....I agree that you might as well upgrade to 42lb injectors. It's not worth it to go with 30's as you will be on the border of needing to upgrade them anyway.
