Exclamation 96 Cobra bogs during hard acceleration! Help!!

Last night I took the car to the track for the first time. When I accelerated from first it was fine, got into second and when I reached about 4-5k rpm the car kind of bogged down so I let off a bit and shifted into 3rd. It only happens during hard acceleration and in the higher rpm numbers. I know that my transmission needs a rebuilt but could that be the cause for the problem? Any help will be appreciated!

hey matey, i had the same problem. to stop it i just changed the air filter. sometimes it always is the easiest things that make the difference.

check the filter, if its a bit dirty get it changed. i wouldnt give it any more WOT runs though just incase its something a little more serious

Clean your iac, check your PCV valve too.

Most likely you have some kind of IMRC problem, it doesn't open and you lose power.
It's a big problem in a 96. Try seafoaming it, it's worth the $5 before you spend more.

do you have an air/fuel ratio gauge? mayb running lean. especially at higher rpm's not enought fuel to match the air.

Are these responses serious in here? Those little items won't make a car cut out.

To the original post.....why do you say the trans needs a rebuild? What is wrong with the transmission? Does it only bog in 2nd gear?

I'm with you on this.

Give it a good go in 3rd and let us know what happens between 4-5k there.

+1 on the third gear check.
Also, how much fuel did you have in the tank and whens the lasttime the fuel filter was changed?
