Any help appreciated with injector timing

I have had a Tweecer for about 2 weeks now and I have read so many (old) post that my eyes are crossed. i am trying to learn how to tune but as many of you know it is a daunting task. So far I have changed the CID to 331 went into the MAF transfer in Functions and loaded the proper MAF, and set my hi and low slope for my injectors. Next I am trying to change the injector timing for the cam that is installed. My question is can some one give me the table values for a comp cam grind# FW XE282HR-12. I am going to get EEC analyzer but I have to wait until next week. Clint is out of town on business so I can't get a registration code.

I would actually say make sure the MAF and Inj. are dialed in a little more, or at least run some logs to verify they are within reason (ie K's not .85's or 1.2's). It has been my exp. that tossing a LOT of changes at once tends to have you going ins circles a little more.

Not that making the needed changes to get the car running should not be done...like say bigger LMAF and 30#ers to at least run. However, get those items fine tuned a bit before you start jumping into inj. timing.

Cool

I have one good log where I took it up the road and back and I plan on making some more this weekend but I am not sure what to look at when I get them. This is all new to me and it is pretty overwhelming but I guess it just takes time. The changs that I have made seem to make the bucking a little better but it is still there. I am sure that you are right, but I don't know how to "fine tune" yet. I'm working on it. I just figured that I could make all of the simple changes and then go back and fine tune. I also thought inj. timing was a simple change with the cam info. I guess i was wrong. Thanks for your response.

Please allow me to give you some words of encouragement and hope

I'm also gonna give you a dose of reality

Honestly ... With only two weeks of self tuning under your belt
and
With using a Tweecer as your method to do so

You haven't even given yourself enough time to get the basics down

You say you have read lots of old posts

Thats good ... That is how you learn

Now ... Lemme ask you something

Did you make yourself some folders on your pc to save that stuff in

See ... Here is how it is when you want to learn to self tune and be
any good at it

Its an investment of your time and effort

You learn a bit here and there but you learn something new each day
and before you know it
Your confidence builds and you start to see all the possibilities

You need to do lots of dl's with different driving conditions
and
It is imperative that you keep good notes about your data

You will go back to that data time and time again

anyway

It takes a good bit more time than ... 2 weeks ... to get the idea of what
all is going on when you are at idle, cruise, mid throttle, WOT, and such

Greg gave you good advise as I see it

You just need to spend time with those who have similar combos
and those you feel won't leed you astray

It won't take long to see which peeps old posts are helpful
and
Those who don't seem to be of much help

EEC Analyzer will be a big help to you

I got a bit of basic stuff on my site
Wes has got some good stuff on his site as well

Heck fire ... We got tons of good stuff right here
but
You will have to reach way back like 2 or 3 years ago or maybe farther

We were more into all that stuff back then

Just give yourself some time and you'll see it will be worth it

In a nutshell .........

You get your Closed Loop Tune (driving around town conditions) in place
B E F O R E
You do the WOT Tune

but

You gotta understand the difference between the two in the first place

For now ... Just and try to get your head around LAMBSE & KAMRF
What are they
What are their values telling you
When are they in use and when are they out of the picture

Hang in there ... You can do it

Grady

Thanks Grady. It's funny that you said that about keeping records and files on my hard drive because I was just reading one of your OLD post today and that is what you were talking about then too. After reading that post I had already decided to do just that. Thank you for your words of encouragement! I truely do understand that I know nothing yet about all of this stuff and that it will more than likely take a LONG time to understand what I am doing. As much as I have done to add to performance on this ride, I am more interested in driveability at this point. Just like everyone else on here I have spent so much money and so many hours I would just like to be able to drive the thing around town without it bucking all over the place and getting more than 3 miles to the gallon. I hope that you are right about EEC Analyzer and BE. I don't even know what to look for after I am done data logging

I've talked to so many other self taught self tuners.

I've found several things seem to be common with most of them

1) You just have to keep yourself exposed to the info even though it seems
like you are not understanding ... anything

2) It really will all start to fall in place ... but ... only if you keep at it

3) When you start to ask yourself questions like ... Why it is doing what it is

then ... you'll find yourself really starting to make huge strides

Example ...

Idle issues

If a little stocker 302 (OEM data in the pcm) has idle airflow of XXX.YYY
it stands to reason
My 331 with larger h/c/i will require XXX.YYY + 20% more

Now my friend ... that is just a guess ... but ......

It was a way to get you to think inquisitively (is that a word )

Do a bunch of 30 second dl's with only one focus on each dl

Like a cruise at 30 mph
then
A cruise at 70 mph

When you compare them ... you'll see differences in throttle, load, and the like

Do a very soft pedal acceleration like ..........
in 3rd gear from say 1500 rpm to 3500 rpm with no more than 1/4 throttle

then

Do another with more go pedal but no more than 1/2 way

You're gonna see differences in when you go from Closed to Open Loop

You're gonna see differences in load

Since load will be different ...

Spark & Fuel will be different as you'll be working off different load
rows in the perspective tables

Know what I mean Vern

Just get inquisitive
Find out what makes that little silver box tick

Hey ... The only one stopping you from finding out what is what is Y O U

I mean ... You got EVERYTHING you need to see hard data

Now ... About that driveability

You'll find over time ... It just gets better and better

The reason why is you get better and better with your self tuning
abilities because your knowledge grows

I always found self tuning VERY fascinating and I had lots of fun with it too!
