1998 Cobra Strut Brace Removal / Cowl removal

OK newbie question here. I've got a 1998 Cobra and I want to change out the plugs and wires but ran into a slight problem. I can't get enough clearance to pull some of the spark plug wires because the factory strut tower brace is in the way. I got all the bolts off on both ends of the struts towers but the 2 bolts that are fastened to the firewall are giving me some problem.

Is there an easy way to pull the cowl off without damaging it so I can access the nuts on the other side of the firewall and remove the strut brace? Will I have to remove the windshield wipers as well??

Thanks in advance!

Are they spinning? They shouldn't be. They thread into the cowl, there is no nut underneath. They should come right out. I used a gear wrench on mine in the past.

Sounds like you have a Steeda or MM STB because those do have nuts under the cowl.
Also in my 96 I could change the plugs no problem with the factory STB on it.
I dont think the 98 came with a STB from the factory?

Yeah, I think the previous owner had some steeda stuff on the car (ie springs, camber plates, ball joints). The bolts are spinning freely but I can't back them out so I think I have nuts holding them behind the cowl.

Now how do I pull the cowl without breaking it into pieces?

Thanks!

OK, just got done. I found somewhere online that the cowl is pressed on with some clips and there were two plastic screws by the weatherstrip.

LaserSVT, you were right, it was a Steeda strut brace. I'm going to leave it off and see how the car drives without it. If I don't notice any difference, I'll just leave it off since it will make life a bit easier when I have to work under the hood again.

Thanks again!
