I thought '99-'00 V6's had C.O.P. (Coil Over Plug) ignition

This may seem rather a dumb post but I have to get my facts straight. I am very familiar with the ignition system setup on 3.8's. I was damn sure 99-00 models had Individual coils over each sparkplug (C.O.P.) , while 94-98 + 01-04 had the standard coil pack + wires setup. I'm asking because on multiple searches throughout the internet, I've come across images of many 2000 model stangs having coil packs. The pack being stashed on the far right drivers side like the 01-04's. Am I correct on this or do only 99 models have the COP setup? Figured I would've known more since I worked at a Ford dealer for 3 years....

Thanks in advance for anyone clarifying this.

94-00 use the F5SZ-12029-A coil pack assy. production date 18sep2000 to 11may2004 use the 5F2Z-12029-AD coil pack assy.

o and for the 5th gen kiddies, production date 07sep2004-current job use the FOTZ-12029-A coil pack assy.

Thanks bd. Knew something was off. Went looking through the Haynes manual and I thought for damn sure the book said 99's had COP. Must be the 4.6's. This would explain why I never seen any COP's on the 3.8's while working at the dealership. Thanks for clearing that up.

Part number you specified for 05-current V6's , that is a coil pack that the Explorer uses. I don't remember seeing plug wires on 4.0 Stangs.? Don't answer that.... probably another dumb question that I should already know the answer to . Thanks again

yup, the 4.0's get spark plug wires. 5U2Z-12259-BA is the part number for the wire set. the 4.0 is almost straight out of the exploder, very few of those engine parts are unique to mustang.

OT comment.

Speaking of similarities in the Exp/Must 4.0's, the exhaust on the Explorer is quite different. The explorers exhaust actually sounds better than that straight 6 sound coming out the Stnags pipe. You would think it would be the other way around. The equally lengthed Y-pipe on the Stang is what's killing it. If you remember, the Explorer has an unusual offset in the Y configuration. The one side has a couple odd turns before it gets to the flange. Now I know these things weren't built for good exhaust sound, but you would think the Mustang 4.0 would have better than that annoying flat sound.

I just had to bring that up, as you mentioned the similarites between the two. I am well aware, I inspected enough of these things. Just cant believe I didnt notice the wires. They must be covered by some more underhood plastic. What's next? Plastic cylinder heads..... LoL that wouldnt work

because power produced by your motor and sent through your trans to your rear tires overcame your vehicles weight and aerodynamic drag to achieve your desired speed....
