Questions about BFG Sport tires not lasting long enough

Hi All

I'm writing to ask about some tires I bought, BF Goodrich G Force Sport, for all 4 of my wheels at 255/45/17. They are all the same size so that I could rotate them, which I did every 4K miles. However, the tires didn't even last 10K miles. They already need to be changed. Discount Tire gave me credit back on them because they didn't last long enough and I got some other tires on order, Michellin Pilot Sport. I don't race at the track or on the street. I rarely drive hard on the car at all since I baby her all the time.

Did anyone else have the same experience with these tires?

Is 10K the normal life of tires on Cobras? My factory BFGs lasted 17K and my BFGs after that lasted 12K.

Did I make a good decision on going with the Michellins?

Can anyone think of a reason why this happened? Do I need to rotate them more often?

Thanks for any advice. I wasn't planning on having to change the tires so soon. I can see the wear, so it's not like Discount Tire is trying to pull one over on me. The tires actually do look like they need changing.

what was the wear like? have your alignment checked recently? michelin pilot sports are softer than the BFG's.

The wear was in the center of the tread on all the tires. I haven't had my allignment checked lately, so could that be it?

If they're wearing down the middle, then it seems that they're pretty dead on. If you see that your tire wear is on the sides, either inside or outside, then yeah, you'll need an alignment.

The tire wear could also somewhat dependent to things like tire pressure, tire wear rating, and of course, how hard you drive your car. I used to really like the Yokohama AVS ES 100's as they had incredible grip and were really cheap (slightly over $100/tire) but the only downside was they'd only last about a year. I figured that $400 on tires every year was better than $400 per tire, and if I had some freak problem like a nail, I was only out $100.

Interestingly enough, I'm running BFG Gforce sports on my 98 Cobra, and really like them. Good against the wear too.

how much air are you putting in the tires? Wear in the center would imply they were over-inflated a bit.

Center wear = too much pressure.

I have BFG KDWS tires in the stock size got about 18 months and 12k miles with PLENTY of tread left. You must have got a bad run or something because I run BFGs on both my cars with great results. I will never use any other tire than BFG.

I run 32.5 pounds on the Cobra. A small change in tire pressure makes a big difference in handling and tire life.
