Exclamation FMU question

I just bought a 1993 GT and it came with a paxton SN92 blower with a FMU installed. I think that the FMU is causing a fuel pressure problem. Every so often my fuel pressure gauge jumps between 40 and 60 PSI. I can feel the jump in the engine so i know it is not just the gauge acting up. Some one told me that the FMU is really not necessary and I wanted to get a second opinion on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
