As far as my experience going from a 4 speed to the T5, the connectors didn't help. As far as the crossmember mount, the best I have seen is under a thread here, labeled

Cobraii351. There are other ways around the crossmember mount, but this is by far the best I have seen. You will also have to check your pinion angle when you finish as you will probably have changed the driveshaft angle without realizing it. Pretty much everyone who has done this swap has encountered it. Hope this helps some, I am sure you have read up on this swap in other places, so I won't get too involved with everything.
