Odd couple of weeks

Came to website bout a month ago had an 88 mustang Gt that I wanted to start building into a decent street car. Nothing fancy just solid. Somewhere along the line of getting parts list in order my 88 mustang morphed into a 97 cobra project.

So where should a long time fox owner start with a bone stock low mileage 97cobra?

I just took the cobra plunge this summer too. Sold my 84 t top coupe to fund it. Instead of nickle and diming myself with bolt ons, I'm thinking KB blower.

my intention with the car is daily driver with scca/road course duty as track times come around. nothing competitive. Just mainly for fun.

As for power adders I have been told midpipe/cold air/tune/gears for the time being. With a supercharger being my last upgrade for power.

Althought locally I was told that for gears I should look at 410's? This gear seemed too steep for me. But my knowledge base is 5.0L fox's so normally 3.55 or 3.73...

Anyone have a suggestion on this gear size?

For gears, I think you should consider what you want out of the car in the future. Staying all motor? Going supercharged or turbo? If staying N/A, go 4.10's all the way. Do some work to your suspension, and get some sticky tires under there, and there's no reason NOT to get the 4.10's.

However, if you're planning on going with forced induction sometime soon, I've heard good things about 3.55's.

Every mod I do to the car is with the understanding that it will be supercharged at some point. Like everyone else I have many obligations in life so will take some time. So what ever gear selection I make now would be the gear I would run for the supercharger.

My car had 373's in it when I bought it. I like them, but like they said if I were building a n/a car with occasional racing in mind i'd go 410.s with the 373's I max out at the strip in third about 300 to 500 feet from the finish line an there really isn't time to hit 4th. some day a blower will solve this. I picked up a bassani o/r x pipe off craigs list for $60, I don't think I want to do the long tubes due to the trouble of installing them, then having to remove them for clutch work.

Funny you mention that about the long tubes. Picked up the cobra for insanely cheap for the low mileage. Main issue was under heavy footed acceleration 2nd gear sec begs for mercy. Reg driving shifts just fine. Just left tranny shop like 15mins ago. And the guy asked me 4 times while giving me a qoute if I had headers on it. Guess once wasn't enough.
