I'm not a big fan of the Heli-Max line...or the other cheap knock off's of Eflite. Actually, until recently, I haven't really been a fan of EFlite either...but with the Blade 400, the mCX and the mSR, I've been impressed. The Blade CP and the Blade CP Pro are garbage, and are single handly responsible for many of new pilots getting overly frustrated and washing out of the hobby.
The small CP helis really aren't all that. They look impressive in video, but they really aren't worth the time or money right now. They all have larger blades that are fragile, they all spin way too fast for what they should be, and they are all WAY too complicated of a head setup for the size and material of the parts.
Everyone that I know that has one has had it flying "Ok" but constantly is chasing a good setup having to tweak, adjust and retweak.
Now, the mSR is a home run. I've flown most of the smaller helis, either at the field, or at the hobby shop. The Novus CP, the Walkera 4G3 are a pain to get flying good and are WAY too twitchy for a new pilot, or even an unexperienced one..
The mSR is damn near as stable as the mCX. It's a fixed pitch, so you don't have collective. But it will behave more like a CP than a coaxial....to a degree. It will get up and SCOOT. It will pitch more than slide...but it still is pretty stable.
It flys on tiny 1 cell batteries, it gets good flight time, it is much much more rugged and robust than the Novus and the Walkera.
I keep toying with the idea of getting one to work on fast backwards flight.....the next thing I'm going to work on. I just know that I'll play with it for a few days, and then I'll ignore it. Not sure if the $140 is worth it. (I'd buy a Bind and Fly and use my DX7)
It's not quite a CP, but it would be closer than the Coaxial. How relavent it will be to larger scale flying...who knows.

A friend of mine was letting me fly his rc helicopter a few weeks ago. Just what I ****ing need a new ****ing hobby. No stopping it now though my house is made for helicopters with a huge two story high vaulted living room. Plus my kids dig them. |

Well the dude at the hobby shop let me fly the mSR and I loved it. He told me he was amazed cause I told him I am a n00b and have only hovered my 450 but I flew that mSR like I had flown it for months. I lifted off the ground knowing the heli was gonna pitch and move foreward but I held it within a 1' space as I slowly (getting a feel) brought it up to eye level. After that I flew it all around the store and really really liked it. Never hit anything and his store is PACKKED with large RC planes hanging from the celing, when it got close it was easy to move it away.
I searched to see how much they are and I can get them for $170 with a radio but the Novus CP was only $40 more. The guy who runs the hobby shop by me loves the Novus CP and he sold me my Axe CX which has been a great bird (over 150 runs on each battery) and said so far only the tail gears strip after 5 good solid crashes. He did say it was twichy though. But that makes sense about too many parts in such a tiny frame. Might be too twitchy foor a n00b in a small house but in my office it would be fun.
When I held the mSR I couldnt believe how tiny and light it was and then to fly so nice. That I could fly anywhere and land it just where I would want to. Its rock solid!
I can get a mSR with 5 extra batteries for $150 but no radio. I wonder if my 2.4 radio will bind to it? It does have a bind mode.
But then I dont want to really do that cause then I would have to reprogram it every time I went back to my 450.

ehhh,
I understand the desire to get one. Really, I do. God knows I fight it every time I hit the hobby shop. But the micro's are novelty items, toys really. If they satisfy you, great. But for me, and I've learned the hard way, I'll put several hundred dollars into them, play with them for a few days...maybe a week...and then they will just collect dust.
I've got 2 mCX's, countless Havoc Helis, a ParK Fly micro Cessna and a Micro Sukhoi.......I played with them for a few days/weeks, and then I just put them away and pull them out once every few months or so.......
And now, I look longingly at the mSR and the new ParkFly Micro Mustang when I'm at the shop to BS with the owners......
I'll never learn........
Granted..I've always been that way. I got my HBKII, drooled over the Trex 450XL....got one. Drooled over the Trex 450SE....got one. Drooled over the Protos 500.....got one. Drooled over the Gaui 200.....got one (only one I regretted getting!!!). Drooled over the Trex 600....got one. Drooled over the Compass Atom 500....got one...
And now, I'm starting to drool over the Logo 600.
I'm going to need to have a kid or lose my job to quit this....

i ONLY WANT A NICE ONE CAUSE i HAVE A BIG OFFICE AND MY COAXIAL JUST ISNT EXCITING AT ALL. i WANT SOMETHING THAT CAN MOVE! (damn caps lock)
So I did some hunting and I can eaither get a full mSR with 6 batteries for about $120 shipped or I can get a Walkera 4G3 with 5 batteries, brushless upgrade, metal head, lots of spare parts, metal case and its a micro 3-D heli for $150 shipped. I watched some videos last night and man is that thing fast! Looks like allot of fun and can fly outside with no problem. It can even flip over and fly inverted in the house. While its stable you can see it does take constant inputs to hover in one spot.
The mSR on the other hand can hover totally hands off and you can even push it with your finger and it will still stay stable. It can be flown outside and is very quick but at under 1oz of total weight I am sure a butterfly fart would move it. |

Crap! I keep watching vids of the mSR and the 4G3 and they both are kick ass.
I like the mSR cause it it very very durable and would be more fun inside. The 4G3 is a bit more to controll inside but outside would be a blast and also would be great practice for my larger copter. It also seems to take a beating. I watched a vid of some Japanese guys flying one and crashing the hell out of it yet it still kept flying..... ARGH!!!!
Really I wont be trying any 3-D stuff with the Walkera but like the idea of of having something cheap and durable to practice a CP on.
What should I get!?!? |

HAHA! I haven't really been sucked in totally yet.
I love flying my co-ax. I'm so careful with my CP that not much happens to it. I need to fly it more. Honestly I'm more intrigued by airplanes. I've had these Airhog bi-planes and they are awesome! |

I'm telling you Lazer...the Walkera 4G3 is nothing but trouble.
It WON'T do 3D in any form. You CAN get it inverted. I've only seen it done once or twice, but some of the better pilots I've seen, and it took them nearly 10 feet of altitude to get it over.
Those video's are misleading.
I'm telling you man, those Walkera are a nightmare to get setup properly, are not very robust, there is no part support except the internet, they are twitchy as hell.
If your deadset on a small micro that has more options than a coax, stick with the mSR. The walkeras and Novus are just going to frustrate you.
Your falling into the trap Lazer. Your thinking of dumping $150-$200 into a micro heli. Hell, shop some of the used forms. you can pick up a Trex 450SE in that price range.....Your going down the path many of did, your going to end up having spent a bunch of money with nothing more than a few cheap helis without any equipment that can be used going forward. At this point, knowing you want to stay in the hobby, you should be looking at purchases that will travel forward with you....a better radio, a better heli kit, better electronics......
/rant over
I've just seen too many guys be duped by the Internet "image" of the Walkeras and regret it the next morning. Walkera has been a garbage brand for some time. |

I dont want the Walkera for 3D stunts, I want something that is as close to my 450 as I can get that I can fly in my office every day. Something that would help me with flying a CP heli.
Now a new 4G3 with the brushless setup, carbon blades, case and extra batteries would run me just over $300. The one I am getting has all that plus a bunch of main and feathering shafts and extra blades and links for $140 shipped.
I have tried to do an ass load of research to figure out what I want and what the issues may be. The mSR is KILLER and I really like it but the first time I picked one up I flew it like I had been flying one for months. Thats why I wanted it but then I started to think, so what, for slow controlled tight spaces I have my CX and I really want to fly my 450 well. I know the 4G3 is twitchy but there are a few tricks I found to tune them right and with the full brushless setup and metal head with carbon blades it becomes very stable and controllable. I am going to order the weight kit for the flybar that slows the heli down quite a bit and helps to allow for hands off hovering.
From what I have read the 4G3 is much easier to make fly right then a 4#3. Hell even one dude running a highly modded 4#3 flys itthen a bone stock 4G3 to show how much better the 4G3 is.
I have thought about this allot and done allot of searching and think the 4G3 will be more rewarding and help me to really fly my 450.
Besides, I cant seem to touch a used mSR for under $130.
Also I dont see why I would buy a T-Rex 450 since I have one already. My Shark has mostly T-Rex parts now except the head and frame and they have taken a serious beating while holding up fine plus I can hover it fairly well. With my schedual I only have Sundays to fly the larger bird and since I will have so much dead time in my office I just want something that flys like it that I can play with all day. With five batteries I can. Also I can get 4 more high output (20C) batteries for $15 and with the adapter my 3s charger can charge three at a time.
Everyone I have seen talking about it on forums says how crappy Walkera is but how much nicer the 4G3 and 4G6 is then anything Walkera ever made before and that they are easy to learn (fairly).
I notice the people complaining about them are the ones who have bought them as their first bird and say they fly (the heli) like crap. I could see hating it if you have never flown anything before as a 3-D is much more complicated then a coaxial or even a FP heli.
Here is another plus, the hobby shop next to me carries all the hop ups and spare parts for the Novus CP which is identical.
As far as forewarding my endevor into this hobby, I will prolly get a DX6 for my Shark because I see the limitations of my radio system but the heli itself is great and I wish you were closer cause I would let you fly it and am pretty sure you would like it.
BTW, I was WAY off on my pitch guestamites. I got my pitch gauge in and I was only getting 5* at max stick and like 3* at mid stick. I reset it for -1* at no stick, 5* at mid and 10.5* at full stick. Just have to wait for my Align tail to come in and then I can go fly it again. |

Well, I tried.
Look, opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one. Internet forums are not entirely the best place for honest, unexaggerated truths.
Who knows, maybe you will get it and it will be everything you have convinced yourself it will be. Who knows.
I can only give my opinion.
I don't doubt for a second that the Shark is a competent heli. But a heli is only as good as it's electronics. Absolutely no offense intended, but the radio you have right now is a few steps up from worthless. It will do the trick to get you hovering and learning the basics, but it lacks many essential features for growth. And you don't want a DX6. At a minimum, get a DX6i. Otherwise get a DX7 or the futuba 7C (i think). The DX6 is a DSM1 only radio, and it only has 3 point curves, and it only has 1 idle up mode....the list goes on.
Long and short of it, you really NEED to have DSM2 technology for your upgraded radio. Nearly all the new Bind-And-Fly models use DSM2, the choices for recievers is limited in DSM1 only, and the DSM1 sucks more power than DSM2.
There are several points in this hobby where you slap your head and say something like "Why the hell didn't I do this sooner?" Switching to a quality radio system is one. The other one is getting a LARGER heli.
I wish you the best, if you get one....but I'll be fairly impressed if you find it to be all that the "interwebs" has convinced you it is.
.....though, I reserve the right to be that A-hole that says..."told you so" in the future!!!!
PS, Dude, If you lived closer and I could see your Shark the conversation would not go "see, I think you'll like the Shark".....It would go more like...."Holy Crap, can I fly THAT!?" |

I am probably going to buy the MSR RTF in the next few days. I will practice with it until Christmas and then give it to my 12 year old as a Christmas present. This way I will appear to be able to fly it like a master with "no training" (dad must always be good at everything) and right about when I get tired of it it will be time to give it up. I did the same thing with the iTouch last Christmas... Played with it for a couple months then packed it back in the box and gave it to my son for Christmas. |

Don't you think your son will notice when he opens his heli and its all beat up from you crashing it! |

Is there a pool yet on weather or not he will give it over after he's played with it??? I'd put money on him keeping it and possibly getting another one for the kid. |

He might as well.....after "practicing" with it for a few months, he'll probably have to replace most of it anyways. |

hey I did the same thing last Christmas with an iTouch, bought it in Nov and played with it for a while then gave it to the kid at Christmas...
Works out great I give it up just as I am getting tired of it...
My MSR RTF is waiting at the counter for me to pick up at lunch, my pants feel a little tight... |

I think you would have fun with my Shark cause if I can make it hover that well that quickly then it must be a decient machine. I do want a better radio though.
I guess what I see on the net is that the 4G3 CAN hover well and if it takes more practice to get there then I am all for it. I am just bored with the CX cause its so limited and I think I may get bored to soon with the mSR and just dont want to spend that kind of money to become bored right away with it.
Crap, I have this whole week to think about it I guess. I told the guy I would pay pal him for the 4G3 on Saturday... maybe I will wisen up and get the mSR instead within that time. |

Yeah, you should have started with a coaxial first. What did you break on it? The blades or the blade holders..... or did you snap the tail? |
