Ford Selling Volvo

Ford still intent on selling Volvo car brand | Special Coverage | Reuters

Seems Ford is going to go with three.

Ford
Lincoln
Mercury

If an admin wants to move this to the automotive blogging, thats fine with me.

I dont know much about Volvo, so I would probably say it's a good move.

Ford pretty much leaned hard on them for profitability in the past and now it seems like they don't need them anymore. Ford also uses alot of safety systems and AWD technology form Volvo. They should be able to sell the brand fairly quick given their vehicle line-up.....oh yeah I own a volvo so i'm kinda baised about them.

I think its a great move, Ford is concentrating on its core brands...and to be honest, Mercury should probably be discontinued and its plants and such should be revised into Ford-lincoln only plants. They have new buildings on the way so the ppl at Mercury could be placed without any layoffs. Mercury hasnt had a hit since Allen Jackson.

With Fords new information release of 2 and 3 cylinder vehicles hitting the market with Eco-Boost (estimated 30 mpgs), to compete with the Euro crowd, Ford can easily get ahead of the game by doing Ford- Lincoln only. Just my opinion, but now that Lincoln FINALLY has a face of its own with the "MK" lineup ford should just concentrate on the two brands.

A 2 cylinder ecoboost motor with 200hp would look real good in a SVT Focus or a Fiesta!!!!!!!!

That's why they need to reintroduce the Cougar. Instead of a "probe-ish" front wheel drive POS, they should make it based off of the Mustang platform (revised w/AWD capabilities of course).

As it was back in the day, the base model should be a V8 (or AWD 3.5L EcoBoost would suffice). Next you will have XR7 (GT equivalent) and finish it all up with the GTE (Shelby equivalent). Would be pretty sweet!

I would buy one for sure. All 3 if I was rich. lol.

Then they could revise the sable to have a chopped roof line and call it the Merc49, Just for S&G's.
