1990 Notch eletric fan not working??

Ok car is bone stock 2.3 90" Notch. The stock fan is not working while the engine is running, thus it heats up if stationary for to long. I pulled the electrical connector off the fan and confirmed the fan does work as I straight wired it of the battery to test it. My question is where do I go from here to fix it so it will cycle on and off when the car is running? Where is the relay located for these things? Any help is most appreicated.

The factory fan does not come on until the engine gets somewhere in the 240 degree range, which is probably why it's not coming on.

If you have AC, it should come on when you turn on the AC.

If you want it to come on sooner, you'll have to put in your own adjustable temp controller and hook the fan up through it.

Interesting, as the a/c unit is not working at this time. And I don't think the car has got up to 240 on the gauge yet. Maybe I'll just let the thing sit and idle for a while and see what happens. Thanks.

My '90 doesn't even have a fan right now. Took it out 2 years ago because it wasn't working. Overheated sitting in a friends driveway running for about 20min, fan never came on. Its made me nervous a couple times but never puked any water.

Cooling Fan Not Working

I have the same problem with my '87 and its the cooling can relay. My a/c doesn't work either and both the fan and the a/c run off of the same relay. Its very hard to find relays for our cars so here's a website where I found them. Try that. And the relay is to the left of the steering column if you were having trouble locating it. Its mounted with one screw. Hope this works out for ya.
