That would be the engine crankshaft. It is the major rotating assembly in the motor that the pistons and connecting rods are connected to. More than likely, if the motor has a bad crank, it probably has other bad parts.
This could include ;
the crankshaft bearings, damaged pistons/connecting rods, cylinder wall scoring/gouging and possible head/valve and or other valve train damage. The only way to know for sure is a complete tear down and inspection of the motor.

Is the engine failure the only problem with the car? It could be a good deal if you are looking to go to a forged setup. If there are other problems on top of a bad engine, you are probably better off looking somewhere else for a car.

That doesnt sound like too bad of a deal really. You can usually pick up a mustang 3v 4.6 for around $2,500. Then you could just swap out the entire motor and away you go.

Right off hand, I personally would not do it. What other damage did the car sustain and how much would it cost to fix? Would a used Mustang cost less in the long run? Just my thoughts. Good luck in your decision.

A salvage title can also pose problems. I would check out a good, used 07 GT. That likely would be the cheapest route all away round.
