Tire Repair Foam

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP for my daily driver. One of the tires has a slow leak that forces me to put air in it a couple times a month.

I mentioned to my dad that maybe I would just spray some of that foam tire repair stuff in it and he said I shouldn't do that.

Otherwise I can take it to the dealer and get it repaired, but that will probably cost me $30+ (and my time) verses a cheap can I can spray in myself.

So what are your thoughts on tire repair foam? Should I avoid it at all costs?
