Isn't this just a means to an end for the V8? Seems like I heard that by 2020 all production cars will have to get at least 24 mpg or better, except for special order vans and such. I see all makers pushing to make the 6ers more appealing to the market all the while lowering the V8 standards so people don't revolt when they announce the end of the 8. Here's a little read, Is the V8 a dying breed? Auto engineers expect more turbos, smaller engines: AutoWeekMagazine, Ill try to find the EPA's release on mandatory MPG increase (something like 2mpg per year starting in 2010 with it's current requirement, around 14)
Of course this is "fleet average" meaning they could make a lot of high mpg cars to offset their average.
