Track time questions

No, this isn't exactly a 'what will I run' thread, I'm just wondering how much I have left in my track times. Went to the local strip Saturday night, and it is an 1/8 mile. I knocked off four 9.6 passes, and I'm really disappointed. Mods are in my sig, and the car's only got 92k on it, oil pressure and compression are both good, however my 60' times were all in the 2.3-2.4 range. My trap speeds all averaged around 72-74. The track is unprepped for the Saturday night street event, so that definitely didn't help knock down my short times to the 1.8 range or so.

My question is, is there much left in my times for improvement? I'm shifting on the stock tach at around 5,100-5,300, and I'm shifting into third just before I trap. My 2.73's will allow me to trap in the top of second more than likely, so should I start doing that? Just looking to get some better times out of her before I slap in 4.10's, suspension, and spray.

you need to get your 60's down better work on feathering out the clutch when you launch.... get your 60s down to

WHAT THE **** MY ROOMATE JUST TOLD ME SOMEONE KEYED MY CAR!!!!!!

2.1 or 2.0 in a 1/4 it takes about .2 off for each .1 off a 60

If your car got keyed that sucks! Did it happen??

And I'm working on that... I plan on going when the tracks prepped soon. My FWA is adjusted so the clutch grabs up top, and I'm still getting used to it kinda, so that needs to be worked on. Should I go ahead and rev second gear to near redline as I'm trapping, or shift into third like I've been?

If your serious about dropping your times your going to need better tires for traction and go when they prep the track.

Waiting on tires for a bit. I've cut a 1.9 on my street tires once when they were a week old, but it was my first time at the track and I granny shifted second and missed third...

My girlfriend said if I can get the rims she'll buy tires for me, so I'm planning on a set of Prostars with skinnies up front, and MT drag radials out back, 275 probably. I'd go with ET Streets, but this is my DD and I'd enjoy not bending/breaking axles or my diff.

I had that same issue for a long time b/c I knew I eventually wanted to run slicks so before I did I got some 31 spline axles and it already had a girdle. Ive been doing 5K dumps off the line all this year and everything has stayed together so far.

I'm holding off on modding my car at all because everything is going to complement eachother... I need to save cash for gears + suspension + rims/tires + brakes all at once.

Im working on suspension and dropping weight next. I have the power to run 11's I just need to be lighter and better weight transfer then what I currently have and better bite off the line due to the correct shocks/struts

Was it KillerCanary on here that ran something like a very low 12 with only ~300rwhp? And in a Vert at that? I'm really curious about his combo/track experience! I'm looking at around 300 at the wheels after I spray, so I'd really like to know what I could do track wise.

yeah look him up on here he has links to his page w/ the mods on his car and some video.

The best way for you to really drop some time is to get a set of rims that are just for the track, does not have to be anything fancy just some cheap V6 rims will do and put on some MT Drag Radials and just swap them out before you go to the track. Your biggest issue is your traction. Get the 60' time down lower and your times will drop too

Yeah, I'm not looking for anything too crazy (sub 1.5 short times...), but if I can get down to ~1.7 on some good drag radials, I'd be happy. My shifting's down pat, but I just really want those gears in since shifting into third RIGHT before I trap is hurting my time I little bit.
