who makes headlights that actually fit?

i ordered a set of smoked repro cobra headlights and corners from latemodelrestoration : 94-98 Cobra Headlight Kit,Smoke at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

this kit fits like s***. the corner lamp rubber seals are jaggedly cut and fit under the fender, not flush. i can stick my hand between the bumper and the headlight on both sides. the metal/plastic pieces and tabs are showing. the fit is horrible. also, lmr didnt pack these worth a flip. the box was used as a pinata before i got it and one headlight and one corner didnt even have any packing material at all around it ! i thought by ordering from this company as opposed to a ebay company, id get better quality. i was wrong. for $208 shipped, i expected ALOT more

please give your suggestions and personal experiences with other light kits as i will probably RMA these.

thanks

I've had the same problem with the rubber on the corner pieces with several manufacturers, can't help you there. But I have bought standard Cobra headlights from Blue Oval Industries without problems.

The main problem is, neither LRS or Blue Oval make the headlights they sell. You need to find out who manufactured the lights you have and not buy that brand again.

The brand on my current lights is DEPO; they make OEM fit lights, and their quality is pretty nice.

I have heard a lot of good things about Depo lights.

As for the corner light rubber...I have had 2 sets of corners on my car and had to rip them off both sets.

and from personal experience with BOI...they don't honor having their crappy parts sent back to them. Hopefully LRS is better with that, they should not have sent them as crappy as they did.

We offer a 1 year no questions asked warranty on the majority of our exterior lighting products.

fiveoho - please call in to our sales center & we'll get you squared away. In the mean time I'll look further in to it to see if this is a rampant problem with all of that particular light set, or just 1 set that happened to slip through QC.

I also have the Cobra style lights from DEPO. 3 years old now with no fit or fading issues. Would highly recommend.
As for the corner housings, I have never seen any aftermarket housings or seals that fit as well as the OEM pieces. I'll go back to Ford for them when the time comes.

thanks for the reply. i do appreciate your concern and trying to help.

i actually called LRS customer service return dept and spoke with a guy there prior to posting this thread. i was polite about the situtation on the phone to him and mentioned the poor packing job and terrible fit. while not directly his fault, he didnt apologize for any of the issues or offer any kind words. i did ask him if i chose to return these, would there be a problem. he said not as long as it was done in 30 days and he would have to have a digital pic of the lights prior to me sending them back to verify there is no damage.

currently the car is at a local collison repair shop being fixed due to a small fender bender, hence the reson for new lights. the guy doing the work was pretty annoyed at the quality/fit of these as well. if he cant make them fit ( without altering ) right, i'll just send them back. sucks ill be out the shipping cost tho

No problem man. Do you remember the name of the rep you spoke to?

Being this is obviously a quality concern, we'll pick them up from you so you will not be responsible for the return freight. PM me your contact info & I'll have one of the guys touch base with you to get the ball rolling.

Hey man, it's what we're here for! If you could snap some pics of the issues for me, that would be a big help. That way i can pass it on to our supplier & let them know what is going on.

Well, the original post is correct.

I have just spent 3 hours trying to get these headlights to fit.
The plastic adjusters (nuts) do not fit in the headlamp mount panel. Now the passenger side headlight, lower outside plastic piece is broken. Also the adjuster above it that the metal clip slides into doesn't even come close to going in far enough to install the clip. I hope LRS stands by this inferior product and issues a return as these are not worth the $190.00 I spent.

John, can you give me a call?
989-942-4232
Thanks
Wayne

Thanks John! I did fill out the "contact us" form online last night also. Does your company sell stock replacements? I still have the OG turn signal lenses and can reuse them if needed. Unfortunatly when I picked up this car a few months ago there was some front end damage and the headlamp adjusters were broken.
I have the headlight kit packed up in the boxes they were shipped to me in.
Oh, I had no issues with the way they were sent to me. Very secure and packed properly.
Thanks again,
Wayne

You'll be getting a call from Karson today to get you all hooked up. We do have repro stock replacement lights as well as repro Cobra lights that come from DEPO.

Fact is, I'll be installing the LRS-13008B-KIT 94-98 Cobra Headlight Kit in my 95 GTS tonight!

Hey John, I just got off the phone with a guy named Tony. He was very helpful! I need to send him the pics of the broken piece before the stock ones are sent. He is supposed to be sending me an email so I can reply with pics. I asked for store credit on the difference in price between the stock lights and these ones. I will apply it towards the Cervini cowl hood and front bumper cover in a couple weeks. Thanks!
Wayne

the visiable metal tabs and gap is driving me nuts. other than that, i like the way they look

Huh. I've never seen that metal clip before on any light, ever. I wonder if it's there to keep the lens from popping off during manufacturing or something. As to the gap, you might be able to improve it by tightening the mount behind that point. The end is a tiny hex end which you might get a small socket on.

Aligning headlights is a PITA, I admit.

Yeah, it's a 5/32" socket.

These lights are just plain cheap and horrible quality. LRS is checking out the company who makes them now (at least thats what I was told). I guess they have had several complaints.

Sounds good fiveoho, just let me know what you want to do. DEPO does not make a smoke headlight kit, but we do have another smoke kit that is made by KS that fits well. 94-98 Mustang Smoke Headlight Kit at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

Glad they got you all taken care of Wayne! Thanks for the kind words.

y'all have a great weekend - I'm out.

The lower outside mounting point, which is supposed to be the fixed non-adustable point, had to be screwed way out to get the light to shine & align correctly. I had to pull each side out a total of 4 times per side.

Just a little tech note - Use a 12mm wrench to release the 2 retainers with the tabs. Took me a solid 30 minutes of adjusting, as I had the same gap you had at the inside of the headlight/bumper cover. Now, it's as close to factory as I could expect from a reproduction part! The special adjustment tool, Detail Page for 14540 Headlight Adjusting Ratchet for Ford - Lisle Corporation , is just about mandatory to get the headlight adjusted so it shines right.

i havent had a set of headlights that fit decent without tons of adjustment yet. i got some of the black housing ones on ebay for 100 bucks that seem to be decent quality except for the rubber is starting to dry rot. the fitment issues is half to blame with the header panel is cracked and sags
