Custom X or H pipe w/ magnaflow?

I'm gettin a new exhaust this week. What will give me the deepest sound, a custom X or H pipe goin to magnaflows dumped? I dont want tailpipes. Or do I even need a cross over on my 99 3.8L? Thanx for any input. Jon

Most will argue that you don't need a H or X pipe. However, it is your money and your exhaust system. There are way to many configurations that provide many different types of sound. My setup is with an X to Flowmaster 40's and rolled tips. My previous stang was no H or X but just straight back into Flowmaster 40's with chrome tips. I liked the sound from both, but it seemed to sound more agressive with no x or h pipe.

Just put in a Magnaflow Cat Back (from catalytic converter back) Dual Exhaust system on my 3.8. Easy to do and sounds great. Go to you-tube and search for all the different exhausts on Mustangs to hear the differences. Thats what I did! Liked Magnaflow the best.

I've run MagnaFlow, Gibson, Borla, and Flowmaster systems on various vehicles over the years: Jeeps, Corvettes, Firebirds, F250 and K1500 trucks.

The best sound in my opinion comes from either the Borla or MagnaFlow systems each time.

If you have a local custom exaust shop near by, ask them some questions to. I did the custom route myself a while back and it fooled the Ford mechanic. I have a custom true 2 1/2" dual exaust that he installed. Had highflo cats. Has a very deep sound and people think it's a v8. I do have a heavily modified engine as well as headers. One thing though, what you do with your exaust also depends on where you live and if you have to take your car to DMV in order to get new tags. I live in a county town and we don't have to do that, so we can get away with doing just about anything we want. But larger cities do make you do this. So check that out as well before you do your exaust. Again, a custom exaust shop could help you with questions/concerns
I'll be leaving this one to my son and I'm getting a V8 Stang next time around like I had before. I think unless something happens to stop that. I spent a lot of time and money fixing up this V6 which was fun but now I can't do all that stuff to make a long story short - disabled after a bad accident. Rear ended on my bike by a drunk driver, I was stopped waiting to make a left turn, she didn't see me, the truck driver said she was going faster than him at 50, bamm!, I'm flying two lanes over and in the junk yard parking lot, woke up the next day in the hospital, they couldn't believe I was alive, not good really, not sure why the man up stairs saved my life really. This is not fun. Got a tuner yet ? Once you get the exaust on and have a cold air intake a tuner would be next. The tuner will also allow you import a custom tune, adjust air/fuel mixture, advance timing, trouble shoot trouble codes, they allow a person to do a lot of stuff. If you have an automatic, you can even use it to tune your tranny's valve body duties, like shift points, torque modulation, gear changes so you don't have to buy one of those speedo gears to make sure your speedometer works right after the gear change, view tranny/engine fluid temps, the list is long. Then gears/tracklok/a Stage 2 or 3 pwr pack from somebody like supersixmotorsports.com or moranav6racing.com. (cam, heads, intakes) an extra 80 to 100 hp sounds good right. That's N/A pwr too ! later on you could even get a supercharger. Don't go with any higher boost than the internals of our engine can stand up to. That's why it's a good idea to upgrade your heads at the least if you want to skip the cam and go with a supercharger. You'd still benefit from ported/polished intakes. The more the flow the faster you will go. If you do have an automatic, it's a good idea to get a quality Torque Converter. A good one can put up to 40% more pwr to the rear wheels that would otherwise be sitting there at the flywheel. okay, i've rambled on enough here. Couldn't sleep so I thought I'd poke around in here a bit. Have fun !
