idle problems

I just joined this site, i'm not a mechanic by any means but like to do my own work on my vehicle. I've been having an issue with my 2002 v6 mustang. Everytime I turn on my AC or heater the RPMs will drop way down and the car acts like it wants to die, then it'll idle back up. It does this everytime I stop or put the car in park. As long as the heater and ac are not running the car runs great. Has anyone had this problem before or have any clue what it would be? I cleaned my MAF sensor but nothing changed.

Its not your MAF sensor. How does everything run cold... and after its warmed up? Does it have any other idle issues? It sounds like you IAC (Idle Air Control) sensor is not working properly. Its supposed to adjust airflow depending on certain engine conditions and AC load. You can remove it and try cleaning it out with brake parts cleaner and see if that helps. If not, it'll have to be replaced. Just dont buy the part at Autozone ..whatever you do.. I have heard too many complaints over the years of defective IAC's from them.

It seems to be about the same hot and cold. It tried taking off on me yesterday while I was stopped and then idled back down. I'll cocentrate on the IAC and see if that fixes the prob.
