I seriously think it is by far the best looking mustang. Talking about bringing tears to your eyes just imagine that saleen with the new 5.0L coyote and a twin screw on top.... giggity

Is this the Saleen being built by Steve Saleen's old company that went bankrupt, or the Saleen that Steve Saleen is building with his new company?

I think they are overpriced. How much is the S281? I wouldn't buy either car.

Here is another one. The 435S:

THis car is being built by Saleen performance vehicles. Not SMS (Steve Saleen). Saleen Inc is "kind of" the same company that went bankrupt. When it was owned by Hancock Park associates, it was driven into the ground, no pun intended. It was then purchased by MJ Acquisitions to be brought back to life. Hancock Park associates is what gave Saleen a bad name. They screwed many people, including employees and part suppliers. Thank goodness, they are LONG GONE now. For the record, Saleen Inc never filed for bankruptcy. I, personally, spoke with their attorney when they didnt want to honor warrantys. How a company can wash away all of its debts and screw everyone it owes money to and not file for bankruptcy is beyond me.

Bottom line though, the new Saleen is one helluva company. The guys there are super nice and helpful.

They are introducing a NEW twin screw supercharger in the 2011/2012 model that is going to be BAD ARSE! They have recently purchased top of the line tooling and flow equipment and promise that it will outflow anything else on the market.

The SMS mustang retails for about $75-$85k

The Saleen Racecraft car released earlier this year is around $43k (a bargain)

The Saleen S281 released at SEMA is (I am told) in the low $60k range...a little high if you ask me....well, a lot high if you ask me.

I believe Saleen also had to restructure his operations another time previous to the recent problems.

He has always seemed to me to be a great racer with good ideas but an awful businessman. Why did he waste so much company money trying to race at LeMans against some of the richest manufacturers in Europe? He also never really learned to slow production during domestic recessions.

I also believe he is fighting a dumb fight against those private equity guys that bailed his company out. He is threatening to sue dealers that may try to sell his former Saleen Performance products?

We'll see. His has a lot more competition now in a poor economy. Roush is not a competitor with a small pocketbook.

While the Saleen S7 was a cool car (two different models). I don't really see that he could have profited based on the R&D costs. This program also took talent that should have been working on the Mustang-based product.

We'll see how the dealer network reacts to his past problems. The ultimate result will depend on the consumers who vote with their wallet.

P/S While I am typing this, there is an ad on the right margin of this site: Roush Performance.
