No Htown? I don't really have a dog in the fight. Too bad our team isn't in it.

As much as I would love to pull against the Yanks, it's hard. They exploit the system, and want to win. Great for them.

I do train Jeff Bagwell's and Lance Berkman's kids year round. Berkman said that he thinks the Yanks will take the series.

It's 1-1 now.

Ain't that the truth. Didn't know you was so well connected. What kind of training do you do for the kids? My prediction, Yanks in 6. Pearl02.

Phillies in 7. Hate that yanks. But overall it should be a good series, both teams can hit the **** out of the ball, the only thing that scares me is the Phils bullpen.

Really wish the Twins would have beaten the Yankees in the playoffs... but oh well. I like to watch the Yankees though, they sure are a talented group of players. Don't really care who wins, but I like baseball so I'll probably watch it.

D, how do you not like them? Yes, the GM and Owner/son, are a holes, but they exploit the system and want to win. Besides A-rod, I don't mind their players as a whole.

I've always been a fan of the underdogs///just don't like the team that throws all the money out for the best players.

Exploit the system! We might have the worst owner in baseball. I had a little chat with one our players last week.

Word is, they are in need of big change.

If it's legal, looks good, and you would hit it, would you???

Same goes for our players. Pay to play. Let's get some pitching

Yep I heard that A-rod made $3 million more this year than the entire Pirate's team salary.

MLB needs a salary cap, it's ridiculous.

Yes all the other sports have one. At least the major ones. It does keep it a bit more competitive.
I can't blame the Yanks for doing what they do though cause it's allowed. But on the other hand, this has to be somewhat of a hollow victory. That's like the dude who has thousands of dollars into his car going out and beating a guy who is lucky enough to have a car and then celebrating a victory in a race. It wasn't fair to begin with.

I just saw them jumping around on the field after the win and I'm thinking, "You should have won this series. You have the most money wrapped up in the team. Why the celebration?"

Like the dude who keeps getting promoted in the company cause his dad owns it. Way to go out and EARN it man.

I agree baseball needs a salary cap and salary floor.. I am a fan of a HAVE team but nobody has what the yanks have to spend and even the other haves can't compete with the yanks in FA

For example the yanks told boris last year get your best offer on texieria from boston and who ever else and we will pay whatever it takes to get him..

HOW CAN ANYBODY compete with that..

Even for the other "haves" Boston,Cubs, dodgers, mets, cards for example can not compete for a FA unless the yanks are all set at that position.. If the yanks need the same position your screwed they will get him..

for the "nots" just forget it you have no chance.. your good players will play for one of the big money teams.. If the yanks are all set in that position your good players will end up in boston or the mets or some other big market. The pirates for example have no chance EVER.. That is sad.

For example Mauer will be a yankee.. I dont care how much he loves minnesota.. what will happen with him is when he becomes a FA both boston and new york will be fighting for him and the yanks will win because they will write a blank check for him..

Both boston and the yanks will want him and if boston offers 20 a year they will offer 25.. if the red sox offer 25 they will offer 30.. if they have to they will give him 50 million a year hell if the red sox offered him 250 million a year they will go 300 million a year.

This is true. The problems are how do you get it past the union and how do you start it with these contracts that are already done?

Here is a small list of players the Pirates lost due to FA or having to trade before FA came up. . .

Jason Christiantion
Demarso Marte
Kenny Lofton
Doug Drabek (Cy Young award winner)
Bobby Bonilla
Tony Womack
Andy Van Slyke
Freddy Sanchez
Jay Bell
Sean Burnett
Aramis Ramirez
Tyler Yates
Niger Morgan
and some guy named BARRY BONDS

There is many many more names but those mentioned were all starters and fan favorites

So no its an unfair playing field for the small market teams. You can be competitive for a year or so but then you have to have the fire sale. I worked for a radio station back in 2000 and the price to run a commercial ad on the radio during the game for twice a game for 3 months in Pittsburgh was $5,000. In New York for the same deal is gonna run ya about 3 1/2 million. All that goes to to the team with a small % to the station. REason. . . NEw york is about 100 times bigger than Pittsburgh

So there ya go not to mention tv contracts
