I am swapping my 8.8 rearend for a fully built 9 inch rearend into my car. Right now I have the in line shock absorbers on my car. Do i need to leave those on or can they be taken off. Just wondering what u guys thought. The car is going to be pushing around 750 horspower when I get done with it this year so there is an idea of what it is up against.

Their purpose is to control wheel hop, and despite what everyone says, aftermarket suspension doesn't always cure this.

Basically if you have hop, you need them. If you don't have hop, you don't

we are talking about the quad shocks, right?

I removed mine when I installed the MM LCA's and I have a little bit of hop...but not enough to make me go out and buy new ones. Of course, I have nowhere near 750HP either.

Yeah I am talking about the quad shocks. The ones that go from the axle to the body at an angle. I Have never had a problem with wheel hop to begin with so I don't see why I would have one anyways. But maybe it is because of those shocks. when I took them off though they were pretty stiff. They didn't let the strut out when they were released and when I pushed them in they stayed like that. So not sure what im gonna do yet

i have a 9 inch in my car and i dont have them. my car is not running now but i have a friend with the same set up. his car been a best of a like a 8.40 in the 1/4. i have never seen a 9inch with them. my 9 inch is 6 inches shorter than a 8.8 so there is no way to have them

No you will be fine without them as I am sure your doing full suspension anyways correct?

Yeah I am doing suspension. I have tubular upper and lower control arms and I am putting KYB shocks on as well as putting 97 cobra rear springs on it.

Are you asking now so you know if oyu need to weld the mounts on the axle?

If so, personally, i'd run them.

Dont waste your time welding the quad shock mounts to the 9" axle. If you plan on 750 hp, then im really hoping that you are gonna run solid bushings everywhere in the rear. I slacked off and kept the stock rubber bushings in when i had UPR's sitting there waiting to be intstalled and it cost me a pair of strange adjustable shocks

Also, nobody ever says this, but my theory about guys that have wheelhop problems WITH aftermarket suspension is that mabye thier torque boxes are out of whack and the constant flexing of the floorpan/tq boxes are what is causing the wheels to hop.

Ok The 9 inch I got was out of a fox body mustang. It is completely built with strange parts. The fox body mustang rearends bolt right up to the SN95 mustangs. The problem I am running into here is that the fox rearend is a little shorter than my stock sn95 rear axle. To be exact it is 3 1/2 inches shorter. I am running 17x10.5 wheels in the rear that were barely clearing as it was. Anyone got any ideas on what I should do. The guy i bought the rearend from gave me a set of 1 inch wheel spacers for each side but I have a feeling that 3/4 of an inch in on either side is still going to be too much. Any suggestions.....?

even if the 1" spacer works, its gonna look weird, what your going to need to do is get a wheel with 1.75-2" less backspacing. I have no clue what wheel is gonna work, your just gonna have to be real careful and measure everything up, triple check all the measurements and order a set of wheels.
