thats up there, to not to bad, there are tons of 4.6's with over 200k still running strong with no problems, most cop cars, taxi's ect... have 4.6's, there are a very reliable engine, i have personaly seen a 4.6 with over 360k miles on it, the only reason it blew up was because a timing chain broke....
it was in a f150 4x4 BTW......... |

well you have to think, its almost a 12 year old car with 140k, i wouldnt pay more the $2500-$3000 max!
i bought my 98 GT 3 years ago with 94k miles for 3k, it was from a private seller tho....... |

i would give $3000 for it, but not a penny more.
In the last few car deals I have dont I have went to the dealership drive it ran the numbers and said I will think about it. then the next day I bring in a signed piece of paper stating what I will accept on my trade and final price of the car and no documentation fees or BS fees that they all seem to charge. They may laugh at the moment, but when I walk out the door I tell them my offer is good for 24 hours. Sure enough usually by the end of the day I will get a call saying they will do the deal.
I think it shows I am a smart consumer and even if I am emotionally hooked into the car they don't know it. I think it also works to their favor in that they arent feeling pressure to say yes or no at the moment, car salesmen and managers are human just like you and I, and if they have to make instant choices with you sitting there it can effect their judgement, but when you give them a larger window to think it through you help yourself, not to mention the fact that they are reminded everyday how many cars need tosell for them to keep their jobs!
Price should not matter, be aggressive, and and pay what YOU think is reasonable. |

Yeah, don't get emotionally involved with a Mustang on a lot, there are plenty, plenty more Mustangs out there.
Man, if that's what 96-98 GT's are going for these days, that is the fun car bargain of the century.
140,000 miles isn't bad for a 4.6L - it might smoke at idle if the valve seals are shot but otherwise, it should be OK. There's still going to be normal old car stuff to worry about so budget for things like alternators and starters, etc, dying, suspension worn out and needing freshening, track-loc worn out, but maybe at 140K it's already passed the everything-breaking-at-the-same-time nexus that seem to hit most car around 100K~120K and the previous owners have already replaced a good bit of that stuff for you.
Get the car inspected if you can but if it's at a lot that deals 10 year old cars with 100K+ miles, they may not allow that. |

I bought my premium 02 GT with 55K miles for $7.5K at a stealership (of course I paid cash in full and cash is king).
You can find some good 99+ PI cars for around $6-7K. Their asking price is waaaaaay too much. |

I did have to recently replace motormounts and the NPI plastic intake crossover took a sh** at 140k. Clutch because it was getting weak.. other than that brakes and tires... Like i said i run the crap out of it. i never let it warm up i drive 750miles a week and get on it at least twise a day all the way up to the redline. Only thing ive noticed lately is it smokes just a bit when you first start it then it goes away. valve stem seals i assume but its not lost a bit of power infact its stronger than it was when i bought it (X-pipe, headers,PI intke, JLT CAI, Catbcack FTMFW!!!) | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
