Catholic Bishops Support Universal Health Care Coverage

Catholic Bishops support universal health care, while opposing all funding of abortion.

The dudes on the radio were arguing about this this morning. There was a guy who didn't understand how the church could support health care coverage for illegal aliens. I didn't understand how he couldn't see why they would support health care coverage for everyone.

Interesting.

USCCB Position on Health Care Reform

In our Catholic tradition, health care is a basic human right. Access to health care should not depend on where a person works, how much a family earns, or where a person lives. Instead, every person, created in the image and likeness of God, has a right to life and to those things necessary to sustain life, including affordable, quality health care. This teaching is rooted in the biblical call to heal the sick and to serve "the least of these," our concern for human life and dignity, and the principle of the common good. Unfortunately, tens of millions of Americans do not have health insurance. According to the Catholic bishops of the United States, the current health care system is in need of fundamental reform. To learn about Catholic teaching on health care in more detail, read the full statement by the United States Catholic Bishops, A Framework for Comprehensive Health Care Reform, at usccb.org/sdwp/national/comphealth.shtml.

If you wish to discuss abortion and the rights of the unborn child in this thread I'm cool with it.

Catholic Church supports open boarders with Mexico, and does everything they can to promote amnesty to illegals as well as promoting migration across the boarder...

No big surprise that they support Universal Healthcare. The Catholic Church has been pretty political for some time. Research Catholic Charities, and you'll see this is pretty much right down their ally. One can go as far as to point out that Membership in the Catholic Church has been declining, and a be portion of their membership is Hispanics and working poor......goes to figure they would support what supports their membership.....

You take Abortion and Gay Rights off the table, and the Catholic Church is pretty much a left wing organization.

Notice, I used capital "C"s, implying the leadership of the Church, the Vatican......Not meaning to implicate all local Parishes and Dioceses...
