door hardware installation

The same guy that is working on the quarter window trim is having a hard time installing new Scott Drake hardware on the door. It was "skinned", and the hardware is not fitting properly inside the door. Any suggestions?

Which hardware? What year?

Up front, I will say the outside handle hardware is not very good, I use old hardware with the new chrome.

So, is it the general consensus that any replacement door handle hardware is going to fit like crap?

The replacement handles on my 66 fit fine. In fact, the door is a repop too, no issues. I did save my old pitted Ford handles in case I wanted to reuse them one day.
